Metal detecting season in my area is just about over this year.  Around end of May-September the ground dries up and gets hard as concrete

Can always go hunt the lakes or riverbanks.  If your lucky and do some research you might even be able to find an old ferry crossing.

I hunted a new permission a couple weeks ago and again last weekend for a few hours and pulled a couple relics and about $10 in clad, one 1949 silver Roosevelt and a Canadian penny.  Took home a good size box of cans and can slaw, bottle caps and the typical miscellaneous metal bits and pieces.   I was set to discriminate out most everything but dimes and quarter signals so I know there's still a lot to be found there.

Sounds like a great place to detect.

Things to do with a metal detector:

My son in law is a pipefitter that started a plumbing company. He wanted to get out of the union crap and be self employed, and has done well.  He called me the other day and said, "hey, you still have a metal detector"?  I said yes, what ya got going on?  He lost his wallet under a house! I said, go get my hand held one,(probe), and it will be easier to handle under a house.  Well, he found his wallet, and two knives.  Ya never know where that buried treasure is.  Smiley

Pretty good for clad but I don't think it had much activity other than for oil wells.  It's a 6 acre field that's never had a home site on it.  The oil wells have been removed but in recent years there's been fireworks stand set up on it so I believe that's the source of the clad.
