So I did not realize what a project this was until completed. It went through about 4 different stages

and I would say about a week of work total non stop.

I learned a lot since my welding and fabricating skills needed improvement from the first time.

Stainless was a pain to Weld,

but finally got it to the point of a decent weld, design and implementation was also a problem

with bends and curves and adaptation to different size pipes. The 3 inch diameter no one wanted to bend

stainless so had to purchase pipes and cut to various angles and weld. I Wanted a particular sound so I did not

want to spend the 3k for a fabricator to make the exhaust for me since then I would not want to change it.

But in the end it was exactly what I wanted as far as sound. The surprise was the configuration and the sound

out the back.

The first time was just terrible the second attempt was the ok but still to loud, the real surprise was the H pipe I

put in the front of the mufflers that made the whole thing perfect. It took the sound down about 75% and yet

gave that good note on full accel and a good idle tone. The whole system is straight through no restrictions just

playing with resonances and engine pulses and sound waves to quiet the exhaust note. With the open headers

you cannot sit in the car literally, its so noisy that everything shakes and vibrates. Cannot even see out the

rear view mirror it shakes so bad. Now on start there is a growl, cruise is quiet, step into it and it roars nicely.

Can I assume that is some sort of European mode of transportation?

It is interesting how the use of and placement of H-pipes and X-pipes affect the characteristics of a vehicle's performance and sound. It really is a science.

It is interesting how the use of and placement of H-pipes and X-pipes affect the characteristics of a vehicle's performance and sound. It really is a science.

So the previous version I made was the same except for the H pipe located before the mufflers. Factory had the H and I took it off, when I did the exhaust revisions and I did not think it important. I assumed the factory mufflers were just that mufflers, instead of the straight through resonators they are. When you would hit the gas the sound was off the charts, kids would have loved it.  Grin

So just by putting that H pipe where the factory had it, took out the shrillness and quieted down the exhaust quite a bit. I have to say I was amazed at the difference, no other changes from the previous and it finally came out perfect. Took out all the distortion or shrillness and yet still sounded sweet on acceleration. So you are right its a science to do.

As a side note; I did not know exactly how to proceed before putting in the H pipe so I asked chat GPT and Grok and made a plan. So with their suggestions and knowing the factory had a H pipe there before, I said I would go for it. Threw out the 2 previous versions I made before since they were basically useless anyway, bought all new pipe, mufflers and X pipe. The pipe with the H pipe in it is 2 45 degree pipes with a 2 3/4 inch pipe cut and welded in the bend. Since it was a bend there were angles to deal with that made things a big harder. The first welds I did had pinholes in the welds another reason to scrap the previous versions. The next step is to buy a tig/mig welder and learn to use that so I can fab any shape or angle with style.

Fabricator that I was going to use sent me this to show his work. I was jealous and want mine to come out that good. Looks beautiful to me and perfect welds, in time I will get it. Had him just in case I could not get it done.
