A couple of large turkeys came into the yard today. Carolyn
took some pictures and a video. The video shows Nala the
cat hiding in the bushes in a stalking pose. I'm glad she stayed there!

We have Canadian geese all over the place.  Tooling down the neighborhood streets and parks.

Also, there are big turkey vultures always circling overhead of my neighborhood and all over.  But you rarely see one walking around in public.

Cute.   Grin

If they’re circling overhead, check your pulse.

Canadian geese are a plague on our county. They’re supposedly a protected species but they’re a menace to almost everything. All they do is eat, crap and fly to the next place and do it there and leave their waste behind them. These birds deserve and need to be culled every year. While they are a decent looking bird that doesn’t mean they should get a pass to just keep messing up parks, sports complexes, water ways, walking areas and anywhere else they decide to leave a mess behind them.

For too long environmentalists and animal rights activists have been permitted to hold too many people and places hostage their their cries of despair and woe is the poor animal stories…BS, shoot those birds and feed the homeless.

Actually, they provide a good service of cleaning up (eating) dead carrion animals all over and that's what they are looking for circling.  I live right next to miles of woodland full of deer, bunnies, squirrels (rodents).  They are always out in the Manassas National Battlefield parkland I ride through all the time and I once had to duck behind my windshield to avoid hitting one out there.  They are huge big birds up close.

All they do is eat, crap and fly to the next place and do it there and leave their waste behind them.

Yes they do.  There's a particular intersection in an adjacent neighborhood I will be driving though to the local market in 2 hours and there is always a herd of those geese out in the streets there.  I always have to be careful not to run any over (which might be a public service, but someone might call the cops on me).  They sh!t buckets of whitewash all over the place.

Me too Craig.   Grin

It's kind of interesting to note that I see them every single day up slowly circling at high elevation, but almost never see one on the ground anywhere.

Turkey Vultures.

It's amazing how something so beautiful and graceful in the sky, is so butt ugly on the ground.

But, like dung beetles, they have purpose.

Yep, they look like a big eagle that had it's head catch on fire, and lived.   Grin

When I am on a lonely back road a long way from home and those critters start flying overhead, I do start to wonder if they know something I don't.
