I saw the headline above and was interested.  So I read the text of the message from CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO).

The link is below but here is some of the text explaining what the "boom" might have been.

Tens of thousands of people heard and felt an explosion all over Northeast Ohio and into Pennsylvania and New York Tuesday morning.

This happened just before 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service Cleveland (NWS), the latest GLM imagery suggests the massive boom was a result of a meteor.

I do not remember ever reading a news article or something in the astronomy groups I frequented about a "loud boom" and a potential meteor explosion.  If that is the case, you would think there would be debris.  Small pieces but some large ones as well.

Some more text from the link above.

19 News Meteorologist Jeff Tanchak said the boom was a result of the meteor breaking the sound barrier and if today would have been sunny, you would have been able to see it in the sky.

Tanchak added we don’t know where the meteor entered the atmosphere.

Well someone must have been looking in the right direction somewhere in the area.  I am looking forward to "sightings".

Yes, I have seen a couple of meteors streaking across the night time sky but never heard one.

I live just east of Cleveland but unfortunatley I was at work this morning and we didn't here it in the factory. I missed a earthquake we had here the other day also. Here's a couple of links from Channel 3 news in Cleveland.

From the link below:

NASA says early data shows the meteor first became visible above Lake Erie before traveling southeast at roughly 45,000 miles per hour.

The fireball was caused by a small asteroid estimated to be nearly 6 feet in diameter and weighing about 7 tons, according to NASA.

The link also includes a video of the event.
