No I'm not getting mine done ... however I have a set of tubeless Suzuki GS wheels that I want to get powder coated and am wondering if the portion under the tire should be masked off by the painter.
Does it matter if the whole wheel is powder coated?
Note: It will be black wrinkled paint ... and am wondering if that could make the tire leak.
Any insight would be appreciated!

I had my Trike wheel powder coated several years ago, but I don't know if they did the inside of the wheel.........
I just took it in, asked how $$$, and said do it......
He cleaned it up and put the powder on it and stuffed it in the oven.

I wouldn't wrinkle paint rims. They get very dirty and cleaning a wrinkled surface would be a pain.

I had some alloy car wheels done a few years ago and they did the whole wheel inside and out. I certainly didn't have any leaks or problems BUT that is not to say that you won't.

I hear you.... but I don't always listen. Ask my SO!  I've been told: It is hard to clean with just a rag.... but a soft brush works great.Jury is still out on this ... Thanks! |

Why? Look at any alloy wheel it will either have paint or lacquer on the bead area it won't be bare alloy. Powder coat is no different to paint. Nice smooth surface for the tyre bead to sit on and no chance of the alloy corroding and leaking. Still it's your choice. |

I have thought about doing this...but $$$ and time is always an issue...

I didn't get a price yet ... but I have told that It's approximately $250.00 for a pair. It's probably less expensive at your end 'cause ... I'm located north of the border ... and fleecing the customer is a very popular pass time up here.  |
