The day we visited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon Obama was visiting the South Rim. We didn't know he was anywhere near until we had left the canyon and was eating supper. I'll take blind luck over skilled trip planning anyday  cooldude  First pic was just lookin at the bottom of the canyon from the trail. This isn't the big one but one of the smaller ones that feed into it.

This one is looking over to the South Rim about 10 miles away

These next two were taken from Point Imperial

This is the sitting room at the lodge. Pretty Cool

One of the trails

This view of The Angel's Window is at Cape Royal. That's the Colorado River you see thru the window.

Roaring Springs Canyon. One of many smaller canyons that are like tributaries of the Grand Canyon. Mostly formed by wind and rain and not the Colorado River

There's a species of squirrel that is found only around the North Rim. Looks like a gray squirrel with long black hair on it's ears and a white tail. Didn't see a live one to get a picture of.
We hardly scratched the surface of all there is to see at the Grand Canyon. It's 270 miles long. We chose to visit the North Rim 'cause it was closest to Zion and Bryce Nat'l Parks and we wanted to see them also. Now that I've spoke with some folks who have visited both, I'm glad we went to the North Rim. (for one thing Obama wasn't there) The North Rim is 1,000 feet higher than the South Rim so you can see more and I can't believe the views would be any more spectacular. The two visitor's centers are 215 miles apart.

That's if you drive from one to another. Across the ditch it's only 16 miles (If my rememberer still works)

Brochure I have says 10 as the Raven flies. (we use crows in NC) I should have said 215 if you drive.

I have some of the same pictures, took my youngest son there on the Valkyrie when he got out of the eighth grade.  What a great trip. I think I prefer the north rim.

Need to take Lizzie there next.

Never had any kids but I always thought it would be cool to share the fun of motorcycling with a kid.  cooldude

Took 2 of my 3 boys on bike trips after they got out of eighth grade.  Middle son tended to fall
asleep and Lizzie insisted we go in four wheels.  Those trips were for the kids but they meant
just as much to me if not more.  They all still talk about their trips.

I am looking into booking a vacation out there this may or June.  Wish I were doing it on a bike but with the 3 of us it ain't going to happen.  Either way it looks like a truly remarkable place.  Can't wait.

Wink Been to the Grand Canyon a few times, never on the bike, yet,  it's hard to show how big it is in a picture  Cheesy  It's been 15 years or so, since I've I looked over the edge  uglystupid2  I remeber I had Colton (3 or 4) with me, and I had him tied to harness & rope  Undecided  Sure glad I did, he had no fear of getting really close to the edge  Sad
