We had ( 4 ) bikes show-up for breakfast this morning .The plan was to ride out to Bald River Falls and cross The Cherohala Skyline then hit US 129 The Dragon this is one of my favorite loop's it's about 250 miles round trip.We took backroads to Tellico Plains and while we was hangin' out at the Exxon Biker Shed VRCC member Razor ( Ray ) and Laura came pulling in. We now have ( 5 ) Valkyries in the group. This is the only pictures I took of the bikes today ( Photo taken at the Bald River Falls parking lot ).

Just a heads up the Exxon Biker Shed has been bought out by Japanese and not a single person we saw today was eating there. I know several groups have used this place as a lunch stop in the past ( need to make other plans now ) .Not only was the resturant empty this old Japanese dude was walking around in the store following folks tryin' to catch someone stealing .

I heard you hit some Snow up on Cherohala.
How'd that go.
Wished I could have been there, worked my arse off with all the bedroom moving furniture ,
painting, tearing down wall paper.
A regular interior decorator.
Not much fun.

Right here is where the plans we had made ...Changed ...We hit snow/ice covered Cherohala Skyline just above the 3000 feet marker . From what we could tell from this point it was only going to get worse. We turned around and made a nice ride out of it by taking Hwy 360 out by beautiful Fort Loudon Lake. We stopped at Applebees on the way home and had a nice steak to finish off a wonderful day of motorcycling.

I believe you could have made it with that car tire Joe.
But the rest may have had trouble with the motorcycle tires.
But turning around means you live to ride another day.
Good story and photos, feel like I was there dude.

Looks like the Tellico River, which Bald river runs into it. I used to play a lot in an open boat and always wanted to make that run. Was never enough water when we were up that way. We used to camp at the Campgrounds about half way up on the Tennessee side of the Cherohala. Beautiful setting. Thanks for posting the ride report and pics.

joe,
love the pictures, keep 'em coming! this summer Nitrojunkie and i will have some posted of our favorite roads in this area! not as nice as yours, but pretty good.
several years ago we were in yellowstone wy. we got two inches of wet heavy snow, i couldn't believe all the cycles that got stuck in it, and they kept going!! i thought holy crap, those guys were nuts!! it was the weekend right after sturgus so it was kind of an unexpected snow storm.

I thought Cherohala had a slide and was closed till further notice. Glad, to see it is opening up soon if we can stop getting snow fall. Can't wait to hit those curves.

I'm sure you're thinking about The Blue Ridge Parkway it has two slide's however the detour is well marked and no big deal getting off and back on. I-40 just across the Tennessee state line in North Carolina mm#2 is closed both east and west. Hwy.64 from Cleveland,Tennessee to Copper Hill , Tennessee also has a slide that has shut both lanes down this road goes out by beautiful Ocoee River and is well known for a nice road for mororcycling.
