Going with a Hankook K-106, 205-55-16. Gonna take it to a HD mechanic on Sat to be mounted. Anything I should look out for? Also whats the best psi to start with? I have been running a 200 Metz so the 1 nut cage has been removed. 98 Tourer, 2 up mostly, both bags half full. Mostly hiway/ country road, but a occasional Ind curve....  Lips Sealed

When I went Darkside, I think I started at 38psi. I now run 36.
Better to start a little too high and come down, IMHO.

You will say: (I wish I had done it sooner  Roll Eyes).

As far as pressure: It's a car tire !!!   Follow the manufacturers recommendation !!

That is the same tire I am running.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

I like the tire. Before I ran a bridgestone potenza it didn't handle as well. The hankook is more rounded and takes less to put it into a curve. Mine is the same tire, I think you will like it after getting use to the difference from a regular motorcycle tire.

I started with 28 lbs to allow "sidewall flex" when cornering, but found that to be a bit squirmy and was a bit concerned with excessive wear on the outside treads.  Bumped it up to 36 but found the ride to be a bit hard. Settled at 33 as I'm about 275 and loaded for trips with the wife on it rides nice. With just me it's just a bit firmer so if I get the urge to roll on it holds well in corners. Still have to keep a firm grip though as those square edges tend to catch road cracks etc and it your not awake you will be. Didn't want to increase pressure too much and wear out the center. Just have to experiment and find what works best for you. I have a GYTT.

Hey Fudggie , I switched over in Dec. and I have about 4500 miles on it so far and I like it and with an Avon up front ... I chose the Michelin all weather/rain tire 205/55/16  H rated and it really stops you, even on wet roads ... I should have gone with the 205/65/16  instead because my gas mileage went down  I was getting around 38-40 mph ... my lady sure likes it , she says its smooth feeling when on the road .... I'm using 32 lbs for just me and 36 for both of us  and our stuff ... right now I'm playing with the air pressure when its been warm here in San Antonio and the tire has heated up to  38-40 lbs hot , thats too bumpy for me ... if your a lite weight  then you'll have to play with the pressure .. now the one thing your going to have fun with is the leaning part because that damn thing wants to stay straight up , but you'll get used to it ... GO DARKSIDE !! I'll never go back to a m/c tire , not at those prices ... Thanks Old Geezer

If you read one of the Darkside reports on the Shop Talk area of the forum you will read that the center wears out faster regardless of air pressure.  I myself like the soft ride of low pressure 26 to 30psi. The tire is so completely stable and forgiving that the soft ride characteristics of low pressure in the tire causes me no concern at all.

I have a Michelin Hydroedge 205/65R16 with over 22,000 miles on it, and it looks like that much more is available.  I run 35 psi with complete satisfaction.  I pull a trailer a lot and ride two up a lot.

However, I am only 185 and the girlfriend is about 125, not a big load.
