So I’m reading about the awards given out in Hollywood (the Oscar awards and such) and I find it kind of strange that if avatar was such a great movie, why didn’t it win best picture?

It did win in the categories of visual effects, cinematography, and Art Direction, but not as best film.  The best film was one that pretty much no one heard of called “Hurt Locker” which by the way was directed by Camerons Ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow !!

I’m more likely to see “Hurt Locker” then I am to see Avatar.  Why?  For the same reason I ride a Valkyrie.  Because I follow no crowd, and just because everyone else likes something, doesn’t mean it’s good for me.  Hell, if I wanted to be like everyone else, I’d ride a Harley.

Avatar was "for fun", Hurt Locker was "serious art"... unless you don't like fun, don't go out of your way
to miss Avatar... part of Avatar's fun was 3D big-screen... I watch TeeVee on a 19 inch tube, so I'm
glad I saw it in a big 3D theater...

I saw Hurt Locker on my 19 inch tube, none of its goodness was lost there...

Avatar is very well worth seeing.  I seldom go to a theatre but I am very glad that I did and I am planning to go again when I get a chance.

Avatar was an experience.  The plot leave little to the imagination, and every plot twist can be seen a mile away.  But I'd like to see it again anyway.  I saw it on IMAX 3-D.  Very cool.

Tha story is Pocahontas... and the politics of it piss me off.  I.E.  the military and capitolism is evil.

also alot of Mother earth worshipping. People, we are  supposed to worship God, and defend Mother Earth. Why is that so hard for the supposed intellectuals in Hollwood to understand.

I thought a lot of that was mitigated by sigourney weaver's character's "scientific" analysis of how the interconnectedness of all the
stuff on that planet worked... that un-technological people who lived on the planet built a mother-earthy kind of religion around
it made sense...

Avatar is a good movie. I met three of them last week while we were in Vegas visiting family.

Cool dudes.

Some "people in the Know" predicted it wouldn't win big because it demonstrated special effects could be substituted for actors and actors voting for Avatar would be promoting their own obsolescence.

Avatar was a fun, cool movie, but... The STORY itself was pretty old, tired and redone many times...
