Excessive comfort breeds weakness. PttP

Thoughts of the Ides of March were dancing around my head, but due to opportunities arising and irrepressible excitement, it looks like we may be shooting for Thursday, this Thursday.  That's assuming nothing goes horribly wrong with the testing.

Something will be handled a bit differently this year.  The VRCC will be taking room reservations.  We haven't done that before, but the resort offered us a block of rooms at a great price if we would do the filling and room assignments.  Check-in will still take place at the resort desk, and payment will be made through the resort, but the VRCC will be giving the resort personnel a list of room assignments and will be responsible for being certain they're all filled.  Can you feel the pressure?  One of our staff had to provide a substantial deposit out of her own pocket to guarantee this block of rooms.

The block we've been provided consists of some forty-five King suites and some ninety double queen rooms.  The King suites each include a kitchenette (seems almost wrong to add the "ette"), a fireplace and a single king sized bed.

The double Queen rooms have two queen sized beds, a small refrigerator, and a microwave.

All rooms in this block have balconies.

When that block of rooms has been filled, the resort has provided us with additional rooms in the other wing of the Summit (same building, other side of the dining area).

There are no bad rooms in the lot.

Placement and Pricing - (You're going to want to know this.)

All rooms will require an $89 deposit at the time of registration.  The deposit will be applied to the room rate.

King suites will be $119 per night plus taxes.

Double Queen rooms will be $89 per night plus taxes.

(edit - The above rooms are in the block for which the VRCC was given a very good rate and which the VRCC committed to pay for across the four nights of the event.)

Additional double bed rooms will be $119 per night plus taxes.
(edit - These rooms are mostly double queen rooms, but there are some among them with full sized beds rather than queen sized beds.)

Preference for the King suites and Double Queen rooms will be given to attendees staying for all four nights (arriving no later than Wednesday, 14 July; departing no earlier than Sunday, 18 July) of the event and will be provided on an as available basis.  When they are gone all room assignments will be in the additional rooms at the $119 per night rate.

Our VRCC rates are available, as I understand it, from two days before the event and until two days after the event.

The other really important thing you need to know is that the InZane in Michigan is going to be fantastic!

See you there.

You are absolutely correct David.  When Willow told me what the rooms originally cost in that resort I just about had a heart attack.  I figured we had no chance at all, but things did work out in the end and I think the prices are great for what we are getting.  (We paid similar prices in past years, and the accommodations were not near as good)

Another cool thing is the way the room blocks are layed out.  1 King Suite with a Double Queen on each side...and have adjoining doors(lockable of course).  You could get together with friends and get all three...and share the kitchen.

I've received a question that indicates I didn't explain clearly enough the difference between the two sets of Queen rooms with significantly different prices.  Here's my attempt at a better explanation.

There are some eighty-eight double queen rooms within the block that the VRCC committed to fill and for which we were given an especially good rate.  It is absolutely imperative that we fill these rooms over the four nights of InZane as the VRCC will pay for them filled or empty.  I hope that explains the preference for these rooms given to attendees staying for the entire event.

The additional rooms are provided to us outside the original room block and although the price given us is good, it's obviously not nearly as good as those within the special block.

I've recently been informed that the additional rooms include some that have double (or full) sized beds rather than queen sized beds, so I should find a better name for those rooms.

I hope that clears up some of the confusion over the difference in prices and availability of the Queen rooms.

As I said before, there are no bad rooms at Shanty Creek and it's going to be a grand time regardless of where you sleep.  See you there in July!

Here's hoping you don't get stuck in a cage for the trip to InZane.  Incidentally, these double queens are planning to be there.

-Edit- Sometimes one can be betrayed by the English language.  These are not double sized queens, but a pair of princess sized queens who are planning to be at InZane X.   ???

Since we've got a bunch of working stiffs running the VRCC, we'll have to put it up in the afternoon... So someone is available to handle any issues.  I'm home from work @ about 2pm AZ time, so it will be shortly after that.  ... Barring unforseen catastrophies (sometimes I can't get out of that work thing on time.)

Maybe I didn't understand the options...are the King rooms doubles? I'll be coming alone and would hate to have a huge room all to myself when others are going to be needing it. All I would need is a room with a double bed, or two doubles....you know, use the second one as a place to toss everything!

Carl...Connie....can someone shed some light on it for me? I can sign up for the four nights, just don't feel I should have a large suite for one person.

The King Rooms have one King size bed and a full kitchen.  The Queen rooms contain 2 Queen size beds.  Does that answer your question, john?

John, there are a few rooms with two double beds  If you specifically asked for one of those we could be certain that you got into one.  They're not the least expensive, though if you're staying all four nights.

Too many tough choices.  I wonder if we should open a thread for people looking for roommates.
