Oil from drive box breather

First ride of the year on the blower Valk yesterday to the Afghan Heroes event.
All is well except for oil blowing thro the drive box breather. Wiped it off at a service station on the ride home and it appears to have stopped.
Changed the oil a couple of thousand miles ago (last year) and never had a problem. Never seen so much as a dribble from either of my Valks in over a 100k so I'm a little suprised.
Apart from parking next to Harleys any suggestions.

If it was a small amount it could just be that the filter was soaked and dripped. But if it's reoccurring, and substantial, accompanied by a hint of oil mist or smoke, it means the pistons on the left side of the motor are broken.

Jeff don't scare me man - I'm talking about the breather on the rear wheel final drive box , prior to riding I had the front end up in the air changing the front tyre, is it possible to trap oil at a higher level in the box?
Never encountered this problem before wondering if anyone else has.

three reasons. 1) the fluid level has gotten to high (recent overfill, condensation from sitting),  2) the gears are over heating causing the fluid to expand to where it is overflowing, or 3) bug made a nest preventing the required venting until the pressure built up enough to briefly blow out the nest and some fluid.

I had blowby in my old Jeep due to clogged breather tubes (routing vent air the wrong way) any chance it's that? I've also got oil in my breather box

Yup, that's the obvious reason.

Overfill when changed!

We all tend to overdo, don't we?

Removed the filler plug last night and oil ran out (over my nice new garage floor) someones been adding oil when I'm not looking. Absolutely sure I only filled it to the recomended level.
Drained it and refilled with synthetic - assured by the kid at the local motor factor 75 W 90 synthetic replaces EP 80, is he correct?

If you had the bike on a lift or a center stand where it was straight up.......then oil is supposed to run out if you remove the fill plug.  Additionally if you fill it to where oil starts running out of the fill hole while its on the side stand you have over filled it. 

The easiest and neatest way to fill the final drive is when its off the bike, or on the side stand leaning so none will spill.  measure and add just 150cc  I use Nyquil cupsX5 because they are small and I can pour them easily by squeezing them into a nice spout.  No overflowing no wiping up no worries
