This just in from the Tail of the Dragon:

Tail of the Dragon Another rock slide. This time it's Little River Road in the Great Smoky Mt Park. An 8 mile long section is closed from Townsend to Metcalf Bottoms, so you'll need to take 321 in/out of Townsend. No time estimate on how long it will take to clear, but there are some big rocks.

Pretty soon us riders in Tennessee will have to ride around in circles!   uglystupid2

Global warming must be causing all this rock sliding crap,....or may be there are too many cows in the area expelling methane gas when they fart!

Little River Road is a great ride. Hope they get it cleared up soon.
Planning on being down there 1st weekend in June.

It is that time of year.  We had a little a couple of weeks ago on I70 east of Glenwood Springs.  A boulder the size of a bus hit the road and punched a hole through it (it is elevated).  Which shut it down for a week and half and resulted in a 200 mile detour.  And while on that detour a basketball sized boulder went through the passenger's side of a car killing the passenger.

Be careful out there!

Well here is further information concerning the Dragon.  I rode down it at 6:00 pm this evening  and back up at 7:00 pm (Thursday) on my way to Knoxville.  Got to the bottom and headed for Foothills Parkway and the road was closed.  The slide is on the northside of the Foothills Parkway.  You can see it from the rest area next to the lake below the overlook.

Talking with TNDOT employee assigned to guard the road block and he told me that the State of TN is closing the road (The Dragon) at the top of the mountain at the TN line.  Stated it is because they can't get EMS and Ambulances quick enough if someone gets hurt.  May be closed till August.

OBTW, he stated it was 378,000 tons of rock (estimated).

So take that for what it's worth.
