Due to circumstances beyond my control my 2000 Valk IS ended up parked for almost 2 years.  Sad  Unfortunately, it wasn't properly winterized when it was parked, but I did get Stabile added to the gas.

This year I'm getting it back on the road.  Grin A new battery and it started right up. Next on the agenda is a good wash, oil changed, and general visual inspection (tire condition, loose bolts, lights work, etc.).

Is there anything else that should be done or checked after a long down time when not winterized properly?

I'd swap out all the fluids... brakes, clutch, final drive too.  I'd also give it a healthy dose of Seafoam into a fresh load of fuel.  Might consider (before refilling the tank) poppin' off the tank and droppin' the petcock to clean the screen... and while the tank is off... pull the air filter housing and make sure no critters built a nest in there while you were "in jail" (kidding).  Evil  A GOOD long ride to heat everything up well enough to cook off any condensation would be a good thing too.

Boy, after two year park, new batt. and started right up. You are ahead of the game.  Smiley As suggested; I would change ALL fluids, take a hard look at tires for cracks, and can`t go wrong with seafoam in heavy dose up front for a while. Good luck. cooldude

You are VERY lucky to get it to fire after two years sitting.  Mine sat for two years but without Stabil or similar.  The PO passed away from cancer and his widow didn't know what to do to put it up right.  I could not get the bike running at their house.  So we pushed it on my trailer and brought it home.  Took the carbs off and started cleaning.  But you don't have that problem...but I would still consider taking the carbs off and making sure the choke circuits in the carbs are clean (that was my major problem because treated gas doesn't stay in there very long).

Check tires, fluids, brakes operation, lube cables, and bushings for deterioration.
