I need to replace the tires on my 2000 Tourer. Having driven Valks for 10 years now, I have tried Dunnies, Bridgestones (great for the 7000 miles they lasted!) and Avon Venoms. I am on my second set of Venoms now and have been very happy with them. I generally get tires from Direct Line Parts and they offer the new Avon Cobra, The Dunlop Elite 3 and Metzler. They also sell Bridgestones but I'm not interested. What's the current preference these days? A buddy runs Metzlers on his Wing and loves them, but so far I am pretty sure I will go with Avons again unless I get some compelling option. By the way, I am particulrly keen on tires that will last for a decent mileage, hence my interest in another set of Avons. Comments please...and thanks

I run Avons. My buddy just got a Metzler, I had one, liked it. I noticed that Metzlers were the lowest cost of the three on HDL right now... -Mike

I've had Metzlers and Avons on the Valk. Currently have a Cobra Front and Venom rear. My Venoms lasted 16-18K on the rear and 24-27K on the front. 42/46 PSI FR/R pressures. Going to a rear Cobra when this Venom wears out. Handling is great.

+1 on the Avon Cobras. I am on my second set on my IS. LOVE THEM!!! Sorry, I don't remember how many miles I put on the tire but I was able to ride all last year on them. So, that should be about 12-14k hard ridden miles.

I'm a Darksider so I'll just talk about front tires. For my riding and for the roads we have here in east TN, the Metzeler sticks better than my current Avon. The Avon is "ok"", but nothing special. I'll probably go back to a Metz front next time. The 880 sticks great in all kinds of road conditions (including slushy stuff) but I'm not the greatest at keeping a check on my tire pressure so they don't last too long for me...my own fault! I'm pretty sure the Metz is a softer compound than the Avon is the reason for both stickiness and longevity for most people. YMMV

There selction seems minimal at the present. I believe they had the Avon front tire for a great price a week or two ago. Now it's not even listed. My local Cycle Gear also had a decent price on tires, with no on-line shiping charges.

I'm with John, I like the Dunlop E-3
I haven't tried the Metzlers, but I didn't get 10,000 out of either of the Avon's I had (Although I liked the way they rode)

Darkside rear, Metzler front, I like the wider tread pattern on the ground Metzler gives you.
One thing to remember, check your tire pressure... Ya no check it and don't maintain a good 45+, (I run 50 in the front) you are not going to get any mileage out of any tire.
Check the pressure before every ride.......... I'm old and have a hard time getting down to check it but I do it anyway......

From the looks of your avatar, it probably doesn't really matter what front tire you use...

I recently installed an Avon Cobra on the front with the rear running the remainder of an E3. So far I like the feel of the Cobra it seems to stick better then my old E3. PS I picked it-up at SOUTHWEST MOTO and no charge for shipping.

I have an Avon Cobra on the front. After about 6000 miles it showes no appreciable wear, and I like the way it handles both low and high speed.(125 per GPS) However it is probably the noisiest tire I have ever had. Howell in the turns and on chip and tar surfaces makes it hard to hear the tunes. Otherwise not bad
