Sounds like a good place to avoid.

Did you find this in a Long Island newspaper? There's a town on the North shore of LI named Port Jefferson. On two of my trips back east, I took the ferry from there to Bridgeport, CN to avoid taking the Valk through NYC again.

I ran across it on a message board attached to a news site.  It's Port Jefferson, L.I.
The bottom of the posted flier reads: Port Jefferson, NY 11777

Doesn't seem to me they could legally restrict me from parking my bike in a legal parking spot.

already sent them an email not to expect Oss's money to be leaving his wallet

I try to stay off long island whenever possible as the traffic is terrible

The only exception would be riding the Valks 2 up with the wives to go to a concert at Jones Beach theater with the Gman

In Dearborn MI, motorcycles are not permitted to use city owned parking lots with meters or in parking stuctures.

Dearborn has also never allowed a motorcycle related bussiness to open for operations (dealerships, parts distribution and M/C tire sales outlets).

The city also owned a park (Camp Dearborn) about 35 miles from the city. It did not allow motorcycles within the park limits. With the help of ABATE of MI and a few concerned motorcyclists we were able to lift the parks restriction on motorcycle usage within the park.

"No motorcycles"
"No unsightly presence of motorcyclists"

What is the likelihood that "unsightly motorcyclists" are going to be there if they cannot ride their motorcycle?  Seems like they addressed the second problem with the first point.

The business improvement district is asking for all parking to be banned on Main St.

What is (dare I say it?) offensive is the singling out motorcyclists and characterizing us as "unsightly".  The observation is made, "Imagine if a reason given for restricting parking was 'the absence of unsightly burkas', what the fall-out would be".

I live about twenty miles from Port Jeff. The Village's concerns with motorcycles goes back many years. This pretty North Shore community draws alot of tourists, because of its waterfront restaurants, and the ferry service that helps travelers avoid driving through New York City to reach New England.
Because of its beautiful surroundings, and the large parking areas that serve the ferrys and the boat owners, motorcyclists began gathering in these lots on weekends in the Summer. The powers that be in the town felt that the bikers were taking up valuable parking spots that would better serve the bigger spenders and the residents that have boats actually docked in the nearby harbor. Also, some neighbors, whose expensive properties back the parking fields AND overlook the harbor, complained about that very noticeable 1% who regularly rev their straight pipes to announce their arrival and departure. So, the Town tried incorporating sizeable enry fees to these parking fields, for non Port Jefferson residents.
Well, quick-thinking cyclists did indeed organize ride-ins, whereby, every Main street parking spot was taken up by a single motorcycle....demonstrating to the town that they had managed to cut off their uppity nose, to spite their face.
Next, the Village incorporated particular rules for parking on Main Street. Fines were issued if more that one bike was in a space, or, if the bike was not parked parallel to the curb. (No angling in to the curb) When bikers learned the rules and began taking up street-spots at the proper angles, the town relaxed their insanity and actually assigned a specific portion of a specific lot for motorcyclists.
Well, I guess for 2010, Port Jefferson is, once again, flexing its muscle-headed insanity. There's a great little custom bike shop right on Main, and some fabulous restaurants. But, I have given up spending any of my money where I'm not wanted. The funny part is, the Port Jeff Ferry, which runs to Bridgeport and provides great support for this town....makes a ton of money off cyclists, because they squeeze dozens of bikes into areas where cars will not fit inside the ship, thereby making about four times the auto fee for the same area of space that a single car would use. But, these folks don't care about the funds we spend. They only want to keep their noses high in the air,to avoid realizing that their sh-t stinks as much as anyone elses.
If we're lucky, Global Warming will have Port Jefferson under water in a few year's time.
Take care all.................Mike in New York

I've never mentioned this on the board, but I was born in Brooklyn. Raised on LI's North shore. Huntington and Port Washington were my home towns. At 19 I joined the Air Force and never went back as a resident. Only a few visits. It's reasons like this which drove me away and I'm glad I left there in '67. Too many people (population density) lead  to too many laws and regulations.

I hate rules like that.

In Indianapolis you have to park MC's perpendicular to the curb.  Even in angled or parallel spaces.  It's not enforced that I know of... but the law is there.

Which brings up... in an effort not to thread-jack... I'll start a new thread.
