Didn't someone post a number for a sylvania bulb that is brighter than stock to fit the trunk lights. I'm having no luck with the search feature. I'm doing the mod to make all the sockets dual filament and forgot to get bulbs when I got the other parts. thanks

Hey Bill,
It looks like the bulb is a 1157. (I haven't had my trunk lights apart in a while but a search of the internet for 12V21/5W reveals the 1157 bulb.) The high output bulb is the 2157.

If it takes an 1157 it'll take a 3496 which the brake element is three times brighter than the 1157. The running light part is the same so heat issues with it.

I am running the SilverStar on my bike. The 9003 will work if you trim the lower two tangs off the bulb. I do not have the adapter rings. Make sure you do not touch the lens while doing this...it will shorten the life of the bulb. Joe

Like Joe said, I use the Sylvania cool blues 9003 and just bend the 2 lower tabs back with no ring. I will give the SilverStars a try next time.

I have the bulb and socket in hand, and they are a wedge type assembly, so the 1157 style won't work unless you replace the socket

The bulb is all glass, no metal base. The info on the side of the bulb is .... w21/54 stanley 12v. It is a wedge type. After reading more than I ever wanted to know about bulbs last nite, I found this is supposed to be the same as a #7443 auto bulb. So a trip to the auto parts store and I will get 4. I sure thought someone posted a brighter bulb number. I have the 9003 silver stars in the headlights (GREAT) and 3496s in all 4 turn signals (changed the rear ones to front style). Had a theme of more and brighter bulbs going. Thanks for all the replies. bill

Bill, I'd appreciate knowing how you made the larger socket fit in the tail light side, there isn't much meat there for cutting

Kingbee, I just took a dremel and ground of the ridges where the socket mounts. Then ground out the hole just big enough to fit the round rubber portion of the socket lock part. File out the notches to fit the locking tabs (just uses 3). It is very close and uses up all the plastic area. Scissors/knife trim off one of the small lock tabs and flatten the rubber part next to the main body so the socket will drop down in the hole. Twist and it will bend just enough to lock up tight. Looks normal when all done. Hope this makes sense. You will see when you look at the parts. The plastic is very soft and easy to work. So is the rubber socket. I'd do pics but I be to ig-rant to figger out how. When I get some time. 9 months to retirement.

Not sure if this helps..... As found on the Rattlebars website.... TAIL/BRAKE LIGHTS: The Interstate four lamp system, with two smaller single filament inner wedge lamps and two 3157 wedge type dual filament outers, seems adequate by most estimates. These lights can be enhanced using the methods detailed by [MarkT] or [Chet]. MarkT = http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Tech_Tips/IS_Trunk_Signals/is_trunk_signals.htmlChet = http://www.rattlebars.com/mtz/istrunklights.htmlAs for brighter headlights.... I use Sylvania Silverstar st9003 in my VTX and Valk I/S..... a friend of mine got new ULTRA Silverstars and compared to my standard Silverstars... mine are brighter.
