Just to let you know:

If you have your email set to "I now allow incoming messages only from senders I have approved beforehand," and you wish to receive automatic notifications, email reset notices and such from the message board, then you need to approve valk.vrccserver.com.

I don't reply to emails instructing me to apply for permission.

My personal opinion is that people using that setting don't really have a usable email address anyway.

(end rant)

Good for you, Willow!  I am of the same opinion.  If I need permission to talk to someone, then I really didn't have anything to say to them in the first place and they can forget it (forever) as far as I am concerned...JTL  Grin

I even do that in business most of the time.

I send approved senders to my inbox, unapproved go to  a JUNK folder.  When I check email, I scan the junk folder for possible legit messages, and empty the junk folder after the scan.

I guess I should clarify what takes place with VRCC message board email (and keep this at the top long enough for those who need it to see it).

Email from the message board is sent from valk.vrccserver.com.  That email address is only used by the automated emailer of the message board.  Mail sent to that address, and thus notices of delivery failure, are forwarded to the VRCC staff email address and ultimately to the staff gmail account where I or one of my colleagues will process the mail.

I'm sure you can see how that with these super restrictive email setups I simply cannot provide the required response requesting approval even if I want to, and incidentally, I don't.

My advise to those holding such email accounts is not to list those accounts as the contact point for the VRCC message board.  You can easily set up a free email account with gmail.com and use that only for communication from the VRCC message boards.

Messages coming automatically from the message boards will include initial confirmation of a valid email address when you register,  alerts that you request such as topic reply notices, notices of private messages, replies to your request to reset your password, and occasional membership wide notices.

We ask for a valid email address so that we know we can communicate with you.  If you block our mail, then you really haven't met that requirement.

then there's folks like me. Sitting here on the base....when i send email to folks (many on my VRCC Alabama Group email list have that "feature" ...and i use the word feature, for lack of a better word...and trying ...to be nice!)....and i get that email saying i need to respond and get permission....the times i have tried to respond to get added to the list of people that CAN send to them...something NEGATIVE always happens.

Like....something somewhere blocks me from replying for some security reason. so, i can't even respond to get permission....to send and email...etc.

another thing that happens often to me...is i have SEVERAL email addresses forwarded here...so no matter where folks send to, it forwards to the ONE email inbox i typically read daily. when i go to repsond to them....since my reply email address is NOT the one they originally sent to (usually the k4tk "at" arrl.net address)...their protection system doesn't like that....since the addresses don't match. So even if i TRY to respond....to get permission, i get rejected...as the email addresses don't match (oh, the k4tk address, that's just a "satellite" service offered by the American Radio Relay league to us members...as a courtesy...so we can ALWAYS advertise that address for folks to send to....no matter how many times are REAL address(s) change. All it does is FORWARD to our real address. i can't originate an email from that one).

So, 99% of the time, even if i want to comply with their "rules" of engagement to get permission, i'm rejected. So, they just don't get the word............too bad....................

Well, here is a test. I put my regular Yahoo email back on my profile, so I can watch for a reply to this thread...

If it STILL doesn't work, oh well, back to text messages to my phone...  Undecided

Yahoo blocks email from our message board.  It's an issue we haven't yet been able to resolve with them.

Angry Oh well, back to the text messages...

Just pointless when I get the text and I am away from the computer... gotta wait to read it!

And for the others using Yahoo for email, I am using the email to text message for my cellphone. If you want to use it as well, it is normally your 10-digit cellphone number and the @text.destination of your provider.

Such as ##########@vtext.com for Verizon, ##########@txt.att.net for AT&T (ones I have used so far...)
