........a fellow by the name of Mark Doyle VRCC #30601 from Windham, NH, he said he was sending a money order for an item in the Classifieds, the money order never arrived, I've emailed him twice, no answer. Has anyone heard of this fellow or done business with him in the past? I am wondering if he is legit or not. He may also go by LOSTNDWOODS??????

I just done a search on him, he's only spent a total of 12 minutes online and has no posts, sooooooooooo....... I think this fellow is a scammer, be carefull if he contacts you, I think he maybe figured I'd send him the item before I got his money order, so he'd get it for free.

Can you look at the classifieds without being a user of the general and/or tech boards? If so, his online time may only reflect his attempts here and not his actual validity.
Although often when things in emails seem fishy then they are.
Just food for thought.

From my experience, a scammer is not going to go to the trouble of becoming a VRCC member, AND register for the message board if all he is after is to scam someone off the classifieds. Anyone can read the classifieds regardless if they are a member or message board member.
I would adopt the policy of never sending an item until you have money in hand.

The fellow just emailed me and said he went in the hospital at the same time he was going to send the money order and is not able to work, money is tight, so, that is the reason for that. Sorry Mark.

Maybe its just me, but I see this totally different. Doesnt the seller and the buyer share a fairly equal risk assuming the price for an item for sale is fair? If I am selling something and I wont mail it until I have money in hand then Im demanding a higher level of trust on the buyers part than I am willing to give. Its just as common in the world of scamming to misrepresent an item, or even never send it even though money was sent. My feeling and anyone can flame me is...that is what the VRCC number is for. If Im selling or buying something from/to a VRCC member I will send the item, or the money as soon as a deal is reached. Sometimes I will check out their number on the board first if I dont know them or havent heard of them around the forum. I have followed this policy for going on 8 years now and never been ripped off. Peace

What you say is true, Chris but if the buyer wants to buy he then has the choice up front whether he wants to abide by the sellers rules but he does have that choice. I would think that if a buyer got stiff armed by a VRCC seller, he could pass the word and VRCC members would put on the pressure. There are exceptions but friendliness and business are different. They can be compatible but that would depend on whether you know the buyer or the seller. I have been burned in the past as a seller and a buyer so Caveat Emptor

I have followed this policy for going on 8 years now and never been ripped off. Peace No flames necessary Chris. Its all a matter of perspective I suppose. You see the inherent good in people, and I usually acknowledge the inherent bad in people. Trust is earned. For example, lets say I were selling an item and someone I don't know in the VRCC wants to purchase it. My decision would most likely depend on the interation I had with that person on whether I'm willing to ship them something without money in hand. The best policy to take from the start tho, in my opinion, is to not trust the other person until they give you a reason to do so. Maybe thats responding to a request for a phone call to talk about the deal or whatever. It just depends. Incidentally, I got burned several years ago by a very well known member here on the boards who mis-represented the item they were selling. I sent the money, and they sent the item. I got burned because I didn't get what I thought I was getting. I trusted the persons word and got burned. Lesson learned. -Scott

I agree with you Scott in general, I get many non-VRCC member responses whenever I have something on the classifieds. I would hesitate greatly to trust someone off the "street" like that until they give me a reason to trust them....well said.
I will however stay committed to trusting anyone with a VRCC Membership number until such time as they give me reason NOT to. Just my way I guess. Also, I pitty the Member that intentionally screwes over another member.........That right there is all the reason for none of us to ever trust such an one.
