I took the center cover off last week and discovered the bank angle sensor was disconnected. The wiring harness connector had a jumper installed. I disconnected the jumper and plugged the sensor back in. Nothing. So I ordered a used one. It came in today. When I took it out of the box, I noticed an arrow and up pointing toward the flat end. The old one was on the cover with the round end up. I went and plugged the old one in and held it with the flat end up. Lo and behold Sandman cranked. Checked it to each side, nothing. Vertical nothing. Hmmm. Turned the key off then back on. Sandman cranked. Seems the previous owner must have removed it for whatever reason then installed it upside down and when it wouldn't start, disconnected and installed the jumper.

Ya gotta love redneck engineering. But hey, at least now you have a spare bank sensor to offer to someone who needs it. Out of curiosity, how did you remove the center cover? I tried to remove mine once or twice but gave up. It didn't want to come out of there. Joe

That was enough to make you cuss also. Obviously you remove the bolt on each side and unbolt the seat latch. Then you wiggle it out of the grommet at the bottom. Yes, there is a slot grommet that a tab on the cover is inserted through. Once you've got it out, you have to remove it from the left side behind the alternator. The starter prevents it from moving to the right. Just keep working at it and it will come out. Just don't get frustrated and start yanking. I've got a belly tank so the fuel lines from it got in the way.

Thanks Marty...I will have to give that a try next time I am working on the bike. I needed to repair the right side cover hook point thingy that broke off. I managed to get it fixed with the the center cover in place, but it would have been MUCH easier taking the cover off.

No problem Joe. Always willing to help. Forum wise I've known you longer than anyone else on this forum. I remember you from HondaShadow.net. While I was at it, I tested the sensor I got in today and it works, so I do have an extra in case I or someone else needs it. You coming to Cheaha?

I put tape over the front of mine so it wouldn't get scratched while I was wrestling with it. And I think I used a shorty screwdriver to remove the bank angle sensor (this is probably why I put it back on upside down) before I pulled the cover out... I was sure the whole time I was trying to get it out that I was going to break it... -Mike

Hey Marty, You were an HS.net member? What name? I have pretty much given up on that place. Too much crap going on over there for my liking. I found my new home here and love it. We will not be coming down for Cheaha. We had to pick rallies and decided on InZane and a friend's ride-in in Kentucky. We are working on getting more time off so we can do more. Time will tell. Joe

Hey Joe, I was blk3fan on hs.net. I joined in '05 after I got my 750 ACE. Wish I had never gotten rid of it. Found I didn't like the 1100 ACE Tourer nearly as much as the 750. Probably explains why I jumped to the Valk 9 months later.

I couldn't be happier with my Valk. I kept my Spirit 1100 for several months after getting the Valkyrie but realized I wasn't riding it AT ALL. And when I did, I felt like I was cramped on it. On the Valk, I have room. I haven't seen it since. I did like the bike and put 56,400 miles on it in about 5 years but MAN...I love this Valkyrie!!! What didn't you like about the ACE Tourer? I believe it had the same motor at my Spirit did..don't remember if the gearing was the same though. And I am pretty sure it didn't have a single pin motor in it. Joe

Yeah it was the ACE frame with the Spirit engine. Even though it is technically longer than the 750, I felt cramped on it plus the guy I bought it from had put on just about every accessory so it never felt like mine. Of course, after buying the Valk I liked it even less.

What's broken... the piece from the side cover, or the piece on the center cover? If it's the side cover piece... I had very good luck with this little exercise. It lasted almost 90K miles before the owner did a stupid and forgot to turn when he got to a curve and totalled the bike. http://www.vermin-club.org/mods/side_cover_tab_repair.htm

I just used velcro on the frame posts..... Much quicker. OH, I was on the road when I broke it, and I happened to have some velcro.
Buddy of mine had repaired his that way.

Kind of hard to get every thing positioned just right when you don't have much room to work in. Or, I could just replace the center cover with the near new one I picked up a couple of months ago. Joe
