Midday yesterday north of Phoenix, 8 bikes were stopped at a light behind a truck when another truck plowed into them.  There were 3 fatalities.  All things considered, its surprising that there were only 3. Very scary.

Driver claimed he was " fishing for paperwork "  Undecided

Does'nt matter it was a big truck a VW Bug could have killed just the same plowing through a group of sitting still motorcycles at a red light .

I don't like to hear this, no matter what the reason the person wasn't paying attention.

Prayers on the way for the families of all the bikers.

More prayer here also,, very sad.   Cry

Any time I am stopped, I try to be diligent in paying attention to traffic coming up behind me for this  reason, I relax a bit (but not completley) after one 4 wheeled vehicle is stopped behind me.

I sure hope the impact caused the fatals and not burning.

Such situations caused by distracted drivers are quite common out here and the politicians refuse to do anything about it.  I can't wait, in fact I pray that some day one of the local politicians will have one or more member of their family killed by a distracted driver than maybe we will get some meaningful legislation to curtail drivers talking on cell phones, reaching for their paperwork or paying attention/fussing with those damm GPS devices.  Maybe if a politician lost a grand child or two we would see some movement on this issue.  Till then you have to be very careful out here.

This did not have to happen.  It might not have happened if they payed less attention to their over patrolled DUI obsession and payed more attention to other forms of distracted driving.  In many cases I would rather be on the road with a drunk than with someone who is doing business out of their vehicle while driving.

What a shame that this had to happen.  If someone doesn't shoot that SOB then there is no GOD!

I’m pretty sure you don’t watch Oprah, but after every show she has a statistic about people driving and talking on a cell phone.  Her new motto is make your car a no-phone-zone.  Thankfully someone in power is listening.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what’s been the outcome of “black fingernail” case in northern Illinois?

A woman motorcyclist was at a red light when she got hit by a stupid broad doing her nails as she neglected to stop for the same red light.

Actually I did get to see a portion of the Oprah show being rerun late at night in which they did a test of people texting.  The show had been advertised and I really wanted to see how they did the test.  The results did not surprise me.  Out here we had a woman hit the rear of a police cruiser and I believe she killed the cop.  She was texting.  The articles and follow up did not indicate that her right to drive had been revolked so she is probably back out there driving again.

Personally I think we should have the right to pull up along someone texting or on the cell phone while driving and fire two warning shots into their chest.  It only seems right and fair.  They're gunning for us we should return the favor. It's only a matter of time before this starts happening.

I do  not normally participate in large group rides but if one is held for these bikers, I will make an exception.
