Other than oem stock, do all modificationss done to them drone?  Do all aftermarket pipes drone.....Mark T's, Cobras, etc?  Which ones don't?

Weaing a half helmet, it's not noticable at all, but with a 3/4 or a full, it's pretty tuff.

My modified stocks do. Even before I mod them. Worse since the b'wing was added. This is without a helmet. Helmet makes it worse. Maybe ear plugs?

I've got the Master Blaster Glasspack mod with 18" glasspacks and they don't drone.

TBR 6 into 2 with the cross-over.  I'm convinced the cross-over is the key though.

I think a lot has to do with the type of helmet you wear.  Earplugs are a good recommendation...and a cheap alternative.

My unmolested stock pipes droned.....very slightly, but still they did it.  Then I cut the piggies.....droned.  Then I drilled the rear baffles......drone a bit more.   Then did the ragnar cut......drones big time with a 3/4 or a full face.

Luckily I wear a half helmet 99.99% of the time or it'd drive me nuts.  Don't really notice it with the half on.....and like the sound of the pipes.  Sounds mean.

However, there are a few rare times that I'd like to be able to wear a full.  As it is now, that's out of the question.

So......what pipes don't drone?

In order to affect the "droning" you will need to change the harmonics.

The motor is a "boxer" design so the harmonics are difficult to modify.

That's the "why" and "what for" of the stock exhaust on the Valkyrie.

The better attenuated exhaust, the less "droning"

98 Tourer, pigges cut, tripple tips, 3/4 helmet, fullface helmet, have not worn new XEO-100 yet, no droning at all. Of course getting a little of hard of hearing might help.  Undecided

I have an '03 Standard with Hondaline triple tips and cut piggies.  There is a drone at highway speed, annoying with the shielded open face helmet  and tolerable with the 1/2 helmet.  Any long trips I plan on using SureFire earplugs because of the drone and wind noise and tire noise from other vehicles on the superslab.

Can anyone else chime in on the glasspacks and droning.
Earplugs are good anyway if you like your ears.
Just the noise generated from wind at 70mph can exceed 120 dbl-and that  was measured on a BMW LT with windshield raised to quietest point.
Earplugs make much more pleasant not only to ride but your bike and your helmet speakers sound much nicer. It also takes some of the whine out of your intercome for those that ride two-up. 2funny

+1 on molded earplugs / earbuds.  I got them when I rode with 2bros 6x6 pipes and still use them with unmolested stock pipes.  As stated, even the wind noise will make my ears ring after a short ride.

I have completely stopped the droning on my pipes.  When I got my 99 IS it had stock pipes with cut piggies, drilled baffles, and truck tips.  It would ring to the point of pain at 2500 to 3000 RPM.  I replaced the pipes with stock unmodified pipes from a Tourer and put my truck tips back on. The overall volume level was better, but the drone (harmonic ring from the truck tips) was still almost as bad.  I made extensions for the Tourer pigies that would reach almost to the end of the tips.  This was about a 75% solution to the problem.  The tips would still set up a harmonic ring at about 3000 RPM.  To break up the harmonic I packed the interior of the tips with 000 steel wool.  That did it!  It's no Gold Wing, but it's now a very comfortable ride even in my full face helmet.  cooldude

No drone for me on my Cobra 6 into 6.  No baffles, cut down 12 inches.

I put 20" Thrush glasspacks on a few years ago and they droned bad.  I got a couple of 1 3/4" muffler pipes from a muffler shop and ran them all the way through the packs.  Problem solved.

One constant pitch from the pipes irespective of RPM.  Like the constant drone under the "melody" of a bag pipe.  I use the term melody in its broadest meaning.   Cheesy
