I've got a friend that bought a brand new 2000 Valkyrie in early spring of 2000...

By 2007 he'd put under 5000 miles on it...

His wife told him to ride it or sell it, so he put it up for sale. Had a potential buyer show up, guy had cash in hand, just wanted to SEE it being ridden...

My friend hops on it, and hot dogs it down his street...

...right into a brick mailbox... Totaled the Valk right then and there, seconds away from selling it...

*sigh*

Since Harley went to a 6 speed tranny & 106 ci, the older one's got alot cheaper....real quick. Me and two buddies come out of Cody Wyo. last summer....slipped by two guys on the classic sleds and decided to see if they could keep up with us..........not a chance. One hour and ten and 100 miles later, we had topped off,and drinking an rc cola with a moon pie when they finally rolled in. One walked by and said...DAM!!! I guess he was talking about one of these. cooldude

fellow I bought my 2000 interstate from had only ridden 4k in 2 years

But he also had an anniversary addition ultra glide and road king harley to play around with
and a boat - which is an addiction all to itself as those with boats know

a hole in the water surrounded by wood or fiberglass into which one pours money

thankfully the boat bug has never bitten me

With a Harley I can understand only 5000 miles. When I found my 2002 Valk 11 months ago with 5000 miles, that I didn't understand.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

It is not only Harleys, I bought a 98 Valk last June that only had 7,200 mile on it.
I should double that by this June. In the PO's defense, he had a bad back and could not ride anymore, it just took him some time to actually let it go.

yep not just HD's.  Bought my 2002 Valk last summer with 11K on it.  Must admit I was a little light on the miles also. I was a little gunshy since it was my first riding since I kissed the pavement a year before that.

The guy I bought it from was putting his year old HD on a trailer and heading west with a pocket full of cash and a smile the day after I bought it.  I hear he has another new Harley again this year.
