First of all my intent of this thread is to generate constructive feedback.  Much thanks to the folks who took the time, effort and expense to make this forum available to us!

Possibly I am missing something, but it appears that there is no way to respond to an individual response within a given thread/topic.  Responses can only be made to the thread/topic as a whole and are appended after the last response in the thread.  If that capability is here and I have just "missed it", please advise!  Otherwise, I liked the feature on the old forum that allowed responses to individual responses within the thread.

Just my $0.02....

If you click the Quote button in the upper right corner of the reply, you can answer the person you want to respond to.  Is this the feature you are missing?

I miss the "preview" feature where you had the topic on the left and the thread itself on the right.

Also, as many of us did, I liked being able to just click the posts with pictures...  Smiley Kinda like "reading" Playboy as a kid, just looking at the pictures!  Cheesy

Overall though, I am getting used to the new board and certainly understand about the processed canned meat! Well done Scott.  cooldude

The color options.  Other than that, I'm happy as a duck in a pond.  cooldude

We added a Includes Pictures "Message Icon", which can be selected when a person starts a new thread.  Choosing that message icon will mark the thread as having pictures(camera icon).  Most people don't use it tho, or haven't noticed that its there yet.  Otherwise, that one is tough to overcome.

I don't miss much of anything about the old BBS. I love this new format, which is much more modern and has many improvements over the old one. It's easier for our Admin to manage, allows for security and password control, has robust features, allows one to express themselves in any chosen manner and incorporate many pictures (from virtually any site), video and or other attachments that were virtually impossible before without some heavy duty tweaking by site administration. I went by the old site a few nights ago and there was nothing left on the General board but SPAM.

I give the VRCC Admin two major thumbs up for their herculean efforts in floating this new package.

This site should support "our" needs well into the future and expedite and facilitate the further expansion of our "limited" club. As I had previously stated, I think Admin had kept that old software floating so long that it had become "stale" and it was surely time for these improvements and updates. Besides.... The theme for 2009 IS change.... right? Enjoy!

I can live with white print on gray background (I'd rather have black print on pale eye-rest green background)

But I desperately need larger print than default.   It is hard to read and harder to type error free posts.

The two things that I miss most are being able to see the threads and the message on the same page. Also I liked the fact that the messages that you clicked on were highlighted so you always new at a glance witch ones that you have already read.

Hey Jess, If you have a "wheel" mouse.... try holding down the Control key and scrolling up on the mouse wheel. That increases the viewed area to any size you want. Of course, you have to do it over and over, but if there is something that you really need to read, then it's worth it. Good Luck from a fellow blind guy!  coolsmiley

I know that every now and then I would like to use the subject line for my reply without having to type a message or use an emot-con. Otherwise I can't really add anything more then what has been said about some of the Old BBS features; seeing the thread, camera icon, the response link changing colors so you know you have already seen that reply, etc..

For me the biggest, or maybe more significant, difference is that the Old BBS was like a pair of comfortable old boots. Yeah the seems leaked, the heals needed to be replaced and a hole was developing not just in the sole but also where the boot met the shift lever. I know I need to replace them but they are just too damn comfortable. Eventualy the boots got replaced and I missed them for awhile but the more I wore and rode in the new boots the better they felt. That's close to how I feel about the Old and New BBS, yeah I miss some of the comfort of the Old BBS but with this New BBS the more a learn about it and the more use it the more comfortable I get.

Thanks for the New Boots Scott! cooldude

I love this new format.  Now, if the Admin could work just one more miracle . . . Honda makes a new Valkyrie.   laugh  I know been workin' on that one since day one of the VRCC. cooldude  Honda knows not what they do.   tickedoff  But the Admi sure knows what to do.  This board is like a Valk.   Fast, smooth, and full of life.

HA, it did not occur to me to just make the whole forum bigger (I can do that).

But now, as I am typing this reply, I am again stuck in tiny minature print.

I do not see any reason the default print couldn't  be about 3-4 times larger.

Most of us are no longer in our 20's, 30's, or even 40's...........

of course, on the new board....there is a "new" in blue next to any thread that has a new post in it you haven't seen...and if you click on the "new" ....it takes you to the newest reply you haven't seen. Works on new threads too!

thanks Doug for that tip on the control and mouse wheel button. Neat! learn something new EVERY day!!!!  cooldude

In all honesty I like this board better. It's more in-line with others out there. Not that I didn't care for the old one! But I feel this gives me a little more uniformity.

Thanks to the admin folks for all their work in bringing this new format on-line!  cooldude

I agree.  As soon as you click on them, they turn white, but they don't stay that way when you return to the list.  It's hard for old eyes to find where I left off!

Jess, if using IE you can use Alt-v and then set your text size.  this is a global IE setting and will make the text larger for every page you visit.   Firefox has a similar setting.

Scott,

Will we eventually get "Shop Talk" and the classifides all on the new main page?. Also, I've noticed that when I naviagte from the old main page to the new one, I can't seems to go back. To get around this, I just open a second window.

Yes, I'll get the links put in.  Just haven't had time to edit the template for the SMF Core theme.

Hold down the control key and hit the "+" key.  To make it smaller, ctrl and "-"

First as has been said I want to thank the powers that be for keeping the board and club going for us. I know it’s not easy but it is greatly appreciated. That said, I really don’t care much for the new board so far but it’s better than no board. There were just two things I didn’t like about the old board. That it as not password protected and I’m glad to see that fixed. The other was that there was no spell check and unless I’ve missed it that hasn’t changed.

It should be remembered that my likes and dislikes are colored by my slow connection. I liked having all the threads on one continuous page which only required scrolling to see. Now I have to wait on each page to load as I click on them. I liked being able to view individual posts rather than having to load the entire thread. With the old board I could skip the posts which had pics which might take too long to load and still read the other posts. I could also view the pics I wanted to. As it is now a pic at the bottom of a thread of pics will take so long to come up that I will probably never get to see it.

I also preferred the split screen of the old board.

But, whatever it takes to keep it going is better than the alternative of not keeping it going.
