Been fixing up the old IS, did the following: New K&N, desmog, new electrical fuel shut off, pulled rear wheel for service including new ujoint. Went over the entire bike and found rear brake light is not working. Pulled the sending unit and pulled the the plunger out, fuse OK  no luck.  Any ideas? Thanks

Does it come on with the front brake.  If yes, then not the bulb if no:

1. Bulb

2. Wire connection fender to fender area

The brake lights work when front brakes are applied.

Hog daddy,

This happened to me on my I/S last week. The problem was with the rear brake switch located by the rear pedal. I ride on a drill team and I am constantly trail braking. The prolonged rear braking caused the contacts inside the switch to get warm. This melted the plastic inside the switch.  I disassembled the switch and cleaned the contacts. I also cleaned up the plastic inside and got the switch to move freely. Problem solved. Didn't cost a dime.

Does the switch ground the brake light?

Nope, it's on the power side of the filament.  Testing for voltage on both sides of the switch with the pedal depressed sounds like the way to go.
