What the heck is this about ? Got ours in the mail last week. Like the Census it says we are required by law to respond. Man, this thing asks a lot more questions and gets real personal. My question is, "How much of this chit are we actually required by law to answer ? I'd like to respond with this one statement. "Aint none of your d#$n business !

The constitution only requires an enumeration. The only question you have to answer by law is how many people live at the residence. A federal judge back in 2000 actually issued a legal restraint against prosecuting someone for failing to answer additional question.

Are you talking about the "American Community Survey"?

I got one of those extremely intrusive pieces of garbage in the mail about a year ago.  Threw it in the trash.

Got another one about a month or so later with a pretty threatening letter.......in the trash they went.

Never heard from them again.

It's legit, or at least, it really comes from Big Brother...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Community_Survey

Quoteth the article:

"To date, no person has ever been charged with a crime for refusing to answer the ACS survey, which several U.S. Representatives have challenged as unauthorized by the census act and violative of the Right to Financial Privacy Act. The Department of Commerce states that it is "not an enforcement agency."

Personally, I'd toss it, or if I was feeling specially mischievous, print a copy of the Constitution, stuff it in the envelope and send it back... Of course, that'll get ya' on a watch list as a potential terrorist, but oh well, I'm sure most of us are already on one of those lists by now anyway...
