Additional Brake Light on IS

Riders...Need some advice.. I just purchased a 2000 Valk IS,  Black.. needs some TLC, but nice ride.. looking forward to making it my own.. my first issue, the last owner added a very ugly basic led brake light on the truck, between the existing tail lights.  I understand the reason for doing so,  more tail lights are a good thing, but it was ugly, not me, not what I would have done,   So I am going to remove, replace, restore whatever…
The issue and advice I need from the knowledgeable riders out there,  is that when the ugly light is removed, there are 6 small holes in the truck!… So
1: fix the truck,  fill holes, repaint ect…
2: put a nice looking decal, plate, something to cove the hole that looks cool…
3: replace ugly brake light with a nice one that would fit the location and hide everything
4: suck it up and leave it alone and explain to any who ask…. it was not me! I didn’t do it!….
I like #2 or #3… but what? How?.

Your bike, your preference and decision.   I would assume if money is no object, get it patched and repaired professionally.  If money is a concern, then do with it what you can and what you like.

As for the extra light.....  yea it is a nice addition.  I got a stock fender light from a standard or tourer and installed it with an LED panel inside (actually came with the light assembly).  It is very bright and stands out when the brake is applied.

think i might just fix it... going to bug the crap out of me if I dont... also, good time now with it already apart... so the standard fender tail/brake light will fit ok even when the trunk is on?  cool.. that is my next purchase then...

Brake/Running Light. you may want to look at one of these LED lights. Easy to mount under the trunk.

Take a look at this place, they have some really cool strip LED lights.  Might be able to cover the old holes up, and use the same wires.           http://www.customdynamics.com/

they make single LED lights that you could wire up in the holes if they are spaced evenly. I got some at either J+P Cycles or JC Whitney for about $20

thanks guys for the info.... very cool...  wouldnt it of been nice IF the former owner had evenly spaced the holes...   that is some of the problem.. not a very good job on his part..... thinking more and more of just having someone fix the holes and repaint that small area between the stock tail lights and below the trunk lock... or find a very cool Valkyrie related decal to put there... have not seem yet anyone put any lights in that location.....  but thanks again...

The standard  taillight goes where honda put that plate to cover the hole where the taillight would be.  Doesn't look bad to have it there also, gives some extra brake light and for going Super Valk.

you do have to modify the cross brace under the trunk to use the Tourer/Standard taillight on the fender.  The part where the rear seat slides into needs to be trimmed to keep from hitting the light housing. 

I would also recommend getting the wiring harnesses from under the seat to the rear section of the fender.  You can splice in the I/S taillight plug under the seat to connect to the stock I/S plug on the main harness.  it would make connecting everything much nicer.

Hey Joe, I think this is only for IS's with the CB under there, no?  My std/tourer tail light went right into the fender knockout on my IS with no clearance issue at all (no CB).

I didn't think it was just ones with the CB.  The two bikes I have seen with Standard/Tourer lights and I/S Trunk had issues with the two pieces that stick down for the rear seat.

Yes, you just trim em down a bit or bend them back out of the way a little bit.  Either way works tho.

Oh and as of now, on that standard/tourer light on my IS, I only have the brake light wired up to come on when the brake is applied.  Sitting up under the trunk it really lights up the night as a slap in the face (especially with back off blinking module) when applying the brakes.  If I go to SuperValk, I will just plug in the tail light wire for running and brake light operation.
