I saw Shell Rotella synthetic at Walmart today, 5W/30, $19 a gallon. Can you get by with the 5W/30 or just use 10w/40??

5W-30 would be OK, if it were the only thing I could find. I use Maxtron DEO 15W-40 form CENEX. Synthetic, long life motor oil. I use it in all my bikes and my truck, too.

Last 3 oil changes have been that stuff, Rotella 5w-30w Synthetic big blue easy to use 1 gallon bottle. I just pick up an extra gallon when ever it is time to change oil in my F350 7.3L Turbo Diesel this way I always have an extra gallon just incase it is time to change bike oil again. It recently went up in price I think it used to be something around $16 or $17 a gallon I think.

I'd be willing to bet that if you look again you'll find that it's 5w-40.

I am not aware of the Rotella symthetic in 5W-30, but it may be. Either way, there is NO advantage to using 5W-30 retahe than 5W-40. 5W-40 simply protects you to a higher temperature.

I use the Wallyworld Rotella 5w40 in my Valk year 'round. Anybody who knows me will tell you that I ride the most in the Summer {all 8 months of it} when it's nice out {90+ degrees} with no problemos at all. I like the fact that on the RARE occasions I start it up in the sub-human 50 degree or lower temps the "5" of 5w40 is good for the engine. It's good stuff.

OOOPS! I missed that one, I guess I just followed suit when I saw the 5w-30 I actually knew it was 5w-40 since it is the same as I run in the Diesel all the time. The wifes car Crown Vic LX-Sport takes 5w-20 that CHIT is like water all the time, other wise I would run the Rotella 5w-40 in all my regular drivers

I live in upper wi. & I was a fan of mobile 1 for years but in the valk i had to add a touch of stp to keep the clutch from slipping out once an a while. I made the switch last spring after i ran out of mobile 1 to the rotella 5-40 and it is better for the bike than mobile 1 ever wasand put roufghly 14,000 on the bike.
