Can someone tell me the difference between the drive shafts for the 1997 Valks and those 1998 and after? I had a shaft (from my 97 standard) loose some teeth (off the end were the retaining ring goes) and replaced it with a new shaft I had for my 99 I/S. Went to order a new shaft and found a different part # and price for the 97 verses the 98 standard or 99 I/S. It seem to fit the pinion cup and the yoke find. I haven't ran the bike and would like a response before I do.

I was under the impression that they were all the same size. They may have different part #'s and still be the same. Also I replaced one that had some teeth missing where you refer and they aren't all needed. They only hold the ring in place so you don't need them all. NowmI have a spare OR 2.

They are...to the limits of my ability to measure them...identical.

I think MISUNDERSTOOD meant to type this:

Fixed. Thanks, Dave

I checked the bad 97 shaft with and old shaft out of my 99 I/S and can't tell any difference. The only noticable defference is in the price as mention above and the part #.

I ordered two more shafts from directparts. The less expenses ones of course. I'm going to run the one I put is the bike and see how it does. Greenzila is back in action.

The old shaft had to much missing to reuse though it was not worn much at 39K.

I REALLY like that paint scheme.  What are the names of those colors?
I would not copy yours but I would like to do something similar to the my G&G Nomad on the '99 IS.

I got the bike a few months ago from a member down in Fla.
The bike had been setting for a while and I have been busy bringing her back to life. I know nothing about the colors. Sorry.

Wayne's World in Jacksonville did the paint job. I'm sure he could tell you.

the differance between the 2 shafts are the tinsel strength, cause the 97's has more horse power

That's true, 97 BLACK Tourers had the most torque and required the extra strength in the shaft. I like that !  cooldude

Nope - "tinsel strength" is how many Christmas trees they can drag......

Thanks for the information. I had asked this same question a year and a half or two years ago and did not recieve a single reply. NOW I'll know to buy the lower priced one next time.
