Converted my left rear bearing to the same size as the right rear. Ordered 2 3204 bearing from McMasrer Carr. Received them for both bikes. Anyway installed one on my Tourer. Was riding and was hearing a popping sound last time home. Took the rear end back off and installed new dampeners. Ok problem solved I thought. While riding Sunday popping came back and really can hear it better on left hand turns. I ordered 2 new SKF 3204 American made bearings and replaced both sides. Once I got the one off from McMaster I decided to pull one of the shields off hoping this could be the problem. Well the 8 ball bearings on each side is support by plastic. I couldn't believe this. Pulled the other side and same thing. I could not believe these heavy duty bearing with plastic to keep the bearing apart from each other. I feel I have solved the popping in the rear end. My so call saving money cost me in the long run. These bearing came from Usolivia (sp). From now on US bearing and I thought McMaster would sell a good bearing. That's what I get for thinking again. The next time you get to thinkin like that, call me. I'll ride over and smack you in the back of the dman head. Now you know why I spent a c-note for my bearings. Marty

Dave, I put oem bearings back in mine. OEM may not be the best bearing out there but it removes the quesswork out of buying. I keep an extra set in my toolbox for next time. btw, you gotta get up here to visit sometime.

SKF 3204-2RS with shipping and tax came to $48 each. Buying OEM NSKs from the stealer would have been $20-25 more expensive and getting them from HDL would have been about the same but would have taken a lot longer to get here.

Another quote on a bearing was $80.

Marty Well to get my overnight I payed $132.00 for 2. Then got on the phone with McMaster and they are giving my money back on the bad bearings. So all went well so far. David
