Paul my guess is zoysia     It looks like c r a p over the winter but its impossible to kill when it stops raining for a month in the hot summer   Ours requieres zero maintenance just cut it and forget it

Have it in part of my front yard from the prior owners 25 yrs ago  VERY HARD TO KILL  you will have to go down a foot and cart it out replace with dirt and plant fresh kentucky bluegrass if you dont like it

Take a look at Weed-be-Gone.  I'm not sure about zoysia, but concentrate mixed in a pump sprayer kills most weeds without affecting my tall fescue.  Zoysia is about the best grass there is for choking out weeds (or anything else).

That shrub may be an old oleander, one of the most poisonous of commonly grown garden plants, and can be very toxic if ingested in sufficient quantity.

The bush looks more like something in the crepe myrtle family or possibly flowering peach.
I'm from the west coast and we had our share of oleandor and I don't believe you'll find that to be one.

Not oleander because it loses all of its leaves in the fall. The clumps of blooms arrived first and now new leaves are growing from the blooms. Could be a Triffid?  Smiley

Just curious but was there some reason you thought Britman might be snackin on it?

Killem all and let God sort them out.

Typical American respnse, it has to be a war or we don't get anything done.

War on Drugs

War on Terroists

War on Obesity

War on illliteracy

and on and on

Good luck on the weeds and that is a nice looking bloomer of a bush you have there.

Don't  have a clue on either species.

If I keep my weeds cut even I have a pretty nice looking lawn.

It's not a flowering pink almond.
Maybe a butterfly bush?

It is a flowering almond or peach.

However it does not give fruit.

No..... but I recalled he has a couple dogs, who don't normally eat bushes, but some will.

And BTW Britman, I looked at my jug of Weed-be-Gone, and it is ok on Zoysia.

No need to identify anything , if it's  dormant  , spray weeds with Round Up , will not hurt  dormant plants .  This is the kink of work I do daily , spray weeds and bugs
