Had a rear wheel brake side bearing fail, bearings come out trash wheel spacer and outer spacer. Guy at the bearing place said it was probably a cheap chinese made bearing even though I got it from Honda. He promised me these were high quality bearings. Had to have a machine shop pull the race out of the wheel. Machine shop guy told wife when she picked up the wheel that the bearing I didn't send to him to be put in would last a lot longer if I took the seal off and packed in more grease. 547 miles later a noticable clunk from the rear end, I'm fearing spline failure because there's no way a bearing could fail in less than 600 miles. Brake side bearing bad. when I got the bearing out there was a large accumulation of grease on the inner seal. I pulled a seal off and there was just grease between the balls on the holder. Should I assault the machine shop guy for trashing my new bearing try to get him to pay for it? Has anyone ever heard of doing this before? Or is this a new expected failure I can expect again. Oh yeah splines are all fine.

My HD bud and a car repair man told me if your careful you can pull the seal and add more grease. Might be time to add the 5204 to the left side. X-ring has a right up on the mod, if its not in the shop talk section yet.

It is. I highly advise you get top tier bearings. SKF, NSK or another top quality brand. You can get NSK at the stealer. It's the brand Honda uses. Call a bearing house in your area. Marty |

I have used this for my subaru. Use the needle method, do not remove the side cover, it will be destroyed and u will not be able to re-install it. I tried it both ways on bearings from a parts car. X-Ring how do you do the 5204 in the left side? Don't remember the name brand of the bearing but these did come from our local bearing place and were supposed to be top shelf bearings.

Take the outer spacer and carry and cut 6.6mm off the side that seats against the bearing. Install the 5204 or 3204 bearing. No room for the dust seal. But theses are sealed bearing anyway. I had them mill .265 off my spacer. Don't use a cheap bearing, don't ask me why. David |

My napa couldnt get a 5204 sealed. The open one they had, the guts of it looked really good. |
