Valkyrie stopping distances equal to CBR929RR sport bike!

From Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine:

"I'll admit to believing that sportbikes, with their lighter weights and stickier tires, would devastate a cruiser in a braking contest. But that belief didn't stand up to actual science. It turns out that measured stops with expert riders from 100 km/h (just over 60 mph) required an average of just 7 inches more on a Honda GL1500 Valkyrie than on Honda CBR929RR. Of course, that assumes you use proper technique. Proper technique involves using both brakes quickly and effectively."

The article goes on to report that using both brakes together is more effective than using only front or rear brake, and that a bike with ABS can stop consistently shorter.

I remember the hardest thing to get used to was stopping a Valk.  The first few weeks, there were a number of times I felt like I was going over the bars.

 My son and I have fooled around with braking contests between his Ducati Monster and my Valk. My darkside valk will stop from 45mph as quickly as the duc will. The duc's stopping ability is limited by it's propensity to nose wheelie and I would imagine the same is true with many sport bikes. When it comes to cornering and acceleration the duc spanks the valk though. However the valk is more fun to corner in my opinion. To get the same level of thrill when cornering the duc that is achieved while corning the valk requires going scary fast.

how about 0 to 100 an back to 0 in 19 seconds? I did it on my 2002 valk standard.what a rush it took me longer to recuperate

Ya want some real stopping power, try out the Kawasaki ZX14 or Concours14.  They have radial brakes and wave rotors front and rear stock.  Can you say one finger braking??  Either one of my Valks feel sluggish in that department after getting off the Kaws.  I agree the Valks have great brakes, but they are not in the same league with the other two.
