I really want to replace and upgrade my OEM horn.  I really like the look of the Rivco Air Horns, but I am concerned about a mounting location for the compressor.  I have the amp for my handlebar speakers mounted under my seat so there isn't any room there.  What are the options for compressor locations?

Thanks!

Under the right side cover.     Lay it up against the frome post and wire tie it in place.      Mount the relay right beside it.

Someone should have a picture they can post, I've got the quad horns on mine so no air pump needed.

I have the hidden horns mounted under the swingarm.

Like RJ said...  Under right side cover.  I purchased mine from Rivco, when they were at IZ II.  Nice part was that they did the install for no charge, while I waited.  My trumpets are mounted under the bike, on the swing arm, and have worked great for the past 8 years.

Just to be sure everything stays working when needed, they give you an instruction card that gives the procedure for a few drops of oil in the compressor hose (once a year), to keep things right.

If I go a good deal of time without using them, I wait until I'm out in the middle of no where and give them a good 10 second blast, prefferably with cows near by, just to be sure  Evil

Go easy on the oil, only need a couple of small drops.

Has anyone ever had one of the horns fail.
I have 1 that works when you have hooked up by itself with the other hose pluged, but if I hook both up then they do not work at all.

Can 1 of the trumpets go bad?

TIA

I would check the hose to make sure it doesn't have a hole it in.  Also, I have had to blow my horns out from time to time due to water in them.  They would work when on my home compressor but not the bike.  I used the home compressor, turned the trumpet to the opening pointed down, and gave it a blast or two.

As a side note...blowing 100PSI worth of air into the horn will make it LOUD!!!  i almost want to put a different compressor on a pressure switch and a small canister just so I can really get the idiot's attention when they creep into my lane.   Evil

That thought had never crossed my mind.
I will have to try it later tonight.

Hoe that works.

Thanks

They are loud.
I once had a car go into panic mode (all over the place) to get out of the way.
I think they thought they  had an 18 wheeler bearing down on them.
Just a caution as to the reaction to these horns.

I toke the air hose and blew it thru the line going to the horn that was not working and it did blow some junk out and it started working.

After hooking back up it did not work again.
Tommorow I will check the line for any possible leaks, the compressor is working.

I had the same problem with my horns after a bunch of years.  Change out the main hose between the compressor and the splitter.  It just gets old and cracked after a while.  You have enough pressure to blow one trumpet, but not both.  Drove me nuts for a while.  I think it's 3 feet of hose.

Forgive my Goldwing PIC here, but if your horns are going to be exposed, you may want a little bling on the air lines.  I went to the plumbing department and bought the longest stainless covered toilet hook-up, cut off the fittings, and replaced the Rivco air lines with it.

Ok so I replaced the hoses still nothing,
Ran hose directly to the small trumpet and it works, ran hose to the large trumpet and it does not work.
If I put the home air compressor to the large trumpet it works just not from the rivco compressor.
The small trumpet works fine on the Rivco compressor and the large 1 does not.
So I just ran directly to the small for now and the 2 130 decibles Cadilac horns it will do for now.

Thanks for all of your help.

Well, if you've replaced all of the hoses and the large trumpet still doesn't work, the other thing you can do is to spray DW40 into the trumpet through the air hose connection and in the front of the trumpet.  Let it sit for 5 minutes and then use the compressor to blow it out again.  Then try with the Rivco compressor.  Could be that it's gunked up in there.  Good luck!

I had the same problem, one horn working. Called Revco she said to soak the horns in mild soappy water to loosen any gunk up then blow the horns out with a regular compressor. It helped I then found a kink in my hose rerouted it to a better location it works GREAT now. You can also hookup a hose to your bike compessor direct to the horns to see if you have a problem with your main hose.

Both horns work seperatly, however the large trumpet will not work when hooked as a pair.
The large trumpet will only work if I use the home air compressor, it will not work with the rivco compressor.
I will try to soak the large trumpet in soapy water to see if that works.
If it does not work then so be it.

If you blew something out of the line, you might have a piece of crap laying on the reed in the horn.

As said earlier, soak them in hot soapy water, blow the horn to get the water out, then put about 3 or 4 drops of WD40 in the hose hole and blow the horn to lubricate and possibily loosen any other crud in the horn.

With out the little protectors, BUGS, BEES, and all kinds of road grim get in the horn..............

I had mine on for about 8 years, and finally 3 years ago put on a set of BigBF's quad horns.....................

I still have the Rivco's and they still work......................

Son wants them for his chopper.   Don't think it is going to happen.
