I am in the middle of changing the fuel screen and o'ring on my 2000 Interstate. Parts were delivered today. In the package, there is a screen, an o'ring and another piece of rubber about 3/8 of an inch long. This piece of rubber fits snuggly over the standpipe. However, when I look at my petcock, the standpipe is not in the center of the hole which makes this rubber piece, I think, unable to fit all the way down. Do I need this piece?? I am attaching a schematic in which I do not see this piece at all. Please help ....

A little, thick rubber thing that fits on the standpipe? Mine lives about half way up the standpipe and keeps the filter screen spread a bit.

What Daniel said. Just did mine this past week. Look inside your old screen and the rubber ring is probably still inside. It's up there the length of the standpipe. There is a rib in the screen and the ring sits in that spot.
Does that make sense ?
