I am thinking of purchasing a Zumo 550 and I am looking for info on the mount.  Is it easily removed for storage in a saddlebag to prevent theft?  Can you just pop it out of the mount or do you also have to unplug the power cord?

Pop easily out of the mount.  I do not use the security screw that comes with the set because that feature is very hard to work.  The unit is extremely user friendly for quick storage.

If the mount system is a RAM Mount, you can get a locking knob for about $15. It prevents the arm from being removed. I leave my Lowrance on the bike all the time except when I'm in a motel on a road trip. Three years with no problems.

I use a different system that allows for removal of the Zumo and the mount. Plug-in via Powerlet plug in the front cover. I put risers on the bike that use caps that open up the center of the handlebars, so the Zumo is mounted right in front of me.

Attached an eCaddy to the handlebars:

The other part of the eCaddy attaches to the Zumo mount:

The GPS, mount, and half of the eCaddy slide into the "receiver" mounted on the handlebars. The Zumo is right in the middle and perfectly, right below my line of sight, which allows for quick glances without having to look all over for the GPS screen:

For the entire write-up about how I mounted this, go to my website here:

I have since sold this Standard, but have transfered everything over to my Interstate. The only thing changed was where the Powerlet was wired. With the eCaddy mount, all that is left on the bars is the "receiver".

I was going to do the same but am going to hold out for the Zumo 660.

I do not need XM and the enhanced bluetooth feature set and wider screen make it a must for me.
