Undecided After removing the lower air pipe on the left side, I noticed that there was a gasket on the pipe/head interface.
I will be cutting the tube and pluging it with JB Weld and a short allen head screw. Do you need to replace that gasket, or can I use RTV or Blue Halomar in lieu of the gasket?

...Hi Momz...replace the gasket it metallic so be sure to scrap the area clean but you do need to replace it...if you don't you run a risk of an air leak ... believe me you can hear it when it does leak

I just did one, reused the old gasket and a small plate to bolt up in place of the tube connector.  Worked fine, no audible leaks.   There is not a great deal of pressure in this system.

I just did a desmog, but have not had chance to run bike yet.  Tank is getting repainted.  I did what some suggested.  I took off the junk under the tank, but I just coated bolts with silicon, and inserted them into the six rubber hoses taht connected to the valves.  That left the pipes all on the engine, but blocked off like if removed.  That way, if the commies at EPA ever require it put back on, just replace.  I am keeping the valves.
Any thoughts, problems.  I realize it leaves the pipes on, but they seldom, if ever, leak like the rubber hoses did.
