I need a quick clean way to drain gas from tank and carbs. will try to syphon tank,

but dont really want to unscrew the screw on the bottom of the carb bowls and let it pour on the engine. is there too much that I cant stick a rag up there and let it soak it up?

Thanks

If the tank is more than half full...use a syphon hose to drain what you can, then remove the tank.  Turn the tank upsidedown and pour out the gas and shake well to see if any sediment is in there, clean tank as required.

Then just open carb bowl drain screws.

I get the impression you were wanting to do it without removing the tank, but if its bad juju in there you will never get it completely empty and clean without removing it from the bike.

Hope that helps
PS when you open the drain screws it pours out the tube under the right side of the motor, not on the engine itself

I've gotta agree that pullin' the tank is the best route... then pull the petcock and see if the screen is all gunked up.  If you're lucky, that's the least of your worries.  If the carbs are gunked up... well... that's a little more digging.

Seafoam (before) is your friend.

Now... if there's just a little bit of gas, and IF you're REALLY lucky (gunk).  If you put an empty container beneath the drain tube before opening the drain screws for each carb... you can also open the petcock... pull the vac line from between the carb/petcock and apply vac with a "Mighty Vac" and just let it flow until empty... put about half a gallon of fresh gas with Seafoam in after buttoning everything back up... make certain you have a FULL charge on your battery and see if you're lucky.

One of the easiest ways is to take the bike to a friends and have him do it, hopefully he won't make too much of a mess.  crazy2
