Hey - new to the forum and the Valk - love the bike but would like to know if the followin is "normal". On decel, is it normal to have burbling (not full fledge back firing) - more like burbling to popping sounds. Comes from both pipes, not just one.
Runs like a scalded dog otherwise and idles fine. Getting 125 to a tank in town.
Thanks in advance,
TGViper

When mine did that, it was cracked and split vacuum hoses.

Assume to fix this you pull the tank and replace vacuum hoses to the carbs - correct? As for the Desmog - I'll use the search button to figure that one out.

Assume to fix this you pull the tank and replace vacuum hoses to the carbs - correct? Nope. It's the hoses that connect to the intake risers. There at the bottom of each is a hose barb. Some are capped and some have hoses. Yes, you have an easier time pulling the gas tank and air box to do this. ***

I agree about the vacuum lines. I found a couple of the capped ones most likely to split. You can check those without pulling the tank and very little work. Just look/feel. I forget which cylinders are deadened vs hosed. Anytime i have had the cracking it was at the connections and not just randomly in the hoses. Hope that helps.

This condition is caused by too much air entering the intake/exhaust system. The common causes are vacuum lines dry and cracked: O rings at the base of the intake runners old: exhaust nuts loose (5-7 FT/LBS): hose clamps at carb inlet loose. O rings are a #123 and can be bought at an industrial supply. Get them in Viton or silicone. Vacuum lines are 3.5 mm or a 5/32nd" . I bought Honda's OEM and haven't had any more trouble in 3 years of almost daily use.

i also found that the carbs can be slightly out of sinc and get theat, when i learned to sync my own, it was amazing that the noises smoothed out on de-cel, i get about 200 miles at loewr speeds to a tank, figured i wasnt as rich any more.

I had the same problem. Replacing the split lines (one had a huge hole in it) helped a lot. I also had to replace the intake o-rings as two were leaking badly this spring and two others were just beginning to leak. That took care of all the popping.

I just hate touching carbs sync really doesnt touch the carbs, but i am with you when it comes to jets, needles, etc. really hope i never have to! though there is enough info on this site i would have to read a lot before i did. but i am confident with the way information is shared here it would be something new to learn,

200 miles? Do you have an IS or reg? I got 125 miles just tooling around before going on reserve. Viper

Also check the clamps on the airbox to carb and carb to intake running if they are loose popping can result.
