Probly just the starter swith maintenance needed, it and several other procedures are in shop talk.  Don't worry it ain't rocket science, somebody has had it happen before.  Smiley Hoser

OK, start with the basics, first what happens when you press down on the starter? Does it turn over the engine but doesn't start? Second, make sure that you haven't flipped the kill switch on, I know but we have all done that one.  crazy2 Next, it takes a full load on the battery to start, it will turn over on one that is not putting out 13 volts but won't start the engine. Are you getting fuel, is the petcock turned on or off?  Shocked

BTW, if you are on the Shop Talk page from Chet, scroll to the bottom for the starter relay maintenance and check that as well..

either in the "kill" position or stuck.......WD40 sprayed in there work it a few times to rule it out as the culprit

I know  it doesn't happen to many, but if kickstand is down and the bike isn't in neutral. You'll  have a no start problem. Don't ask me how I know this ???

crazy2 that was the problem. i put in the clutch to pull the bike back some, must have thought it was in neutral (it has been a long winter) turns out it was in gear, put it in neutral and whammo, started right up.
went out 2 times for short rides and it sure felt good.
thanks everyone.
