I wish I had better data but I don't.I live on a dirt road (1/2 mile) and have put on well over 10k miles and probably 3 years have passed. I pulled my tank the other day and was pretty amazed how clean the filter was and what I could see of the filtered side looked looked like it had been well protected.
Anyway, pulled tank to rebuild petcock but now don't trust the damn thing because of everyone's experiences-ah...the dilemma.

I've been considering a K&N filter, but I'm wondering, are they worth their price?

I've had one on both my Valks. To me they're worth it. Not sure
of the price on a paper filter...but if you replace them yearly....
or more often....seems like the $$$ would add up. YMMV. cooldude

I would not mess with them, unless you are into competitive racing. OEM's filters air cleaner than K&N. . I had an K&N and ruined it because I blew compressed air thru it. You cann't just wash/reoil and reinstall you have to wait for it to air dry. I could ride 400 miles waiting for the filter to dry. JMO~TJ

I have the KN filter on mine and you asked if they are worth the price of course I must have gotten 30 hp more and my gas mileage is up by 20 percent 2funny but really I did it as some performance gain but mostly maintenance you dont have to clean them as often as a normal filter and if you are worried about dust then keep the foam on the filter. As for cleaning they dont take long to dry and I dont think I have ever waited for them to dry. Clean, blow dry oil and install no problem. Are they worth the money, maybe  I think so you'll have to make your own choice. I almost forgot it will more than likely last the life of your bike. Thats one less expense to buy from Honda. Grin

I almost laugh when people talk about quick-connects for their fuel tank.....until you faced with trying to reinstall that fuel line.I've heard that k & n's let in too much dust or dirt and my point was that I did not see any evidence of dirt getting past filter.I like k & n's because they allow for a lot of neglect before need of servicing.
