How far will a CB transmit on a Valkyrie, I guess I mean what is the range of Transmission.

Got a new head set mounted on a helmet and the speakers are great.

Just can't get a comback on the CB Radio and thought I might be doing something wrong.

ANy body going to Cheaha have a CB to see if I am transmitting?

Can hear others just fine talking on the Radio(CB) but they can't hear me.

Got a new Mustang Seat with Driver Back Rest on the Way , either from South Carolina or Nevada

according to my dealer in Clinton.

May be here before I leave Friday.

Can't hide money as Joe says.

Man these bikes are gonna break me, but it's fun going broke ain't it.

Rumor has it they had to kill this Gator to cover a set big enough for my fat AXX.

depending on terrain, about 4-6 miles is the best i've gotten.
i'm sure someone will chime in with other distances.

Same way on the Interstate I had Al....I could hear people, but they couldn't hear me. I sold the Interstate not long after buying it, so I never did investigate why it wouldn't work.

And I thought I was the only one that could hear everyone okay, but they could hardly hear me, yet when I was on another bike with my helmet and mic, I could be heard fine. Gotta be something in the I/S cb setup. I have never adjusted the antenna with a s/w meter, though. Might that help?

Thanks

Posted this on the Tech Board, so if you know a fix there is where I am now.

Reliably I can talk for about a two mile range to some of the Wing guys that I know. It will come down to environment and radio / antenna condition. Put a SWR meter on it, that will tell the story. Good luck!

Maybe the Valkrie does not offer enough of a ground plane for good transmission.  I would definatly put a SWR meter on it though. A bad antenna set-up will still receive pretty well, but transmission will be down.  I had a Cobra back in the day that had been hand tuned and then we really flattened out the antenna signal. That baby would transmit and receive 15 miles.  There are still CB shops around that can take a factory radio and then supertune to get the most out of a radio. I think the tranmitting power out from the factory was 70% output. Then is is "good enough" to sell. The Cobra I had was tuned to 98%.

Jm or J & M

Looks to be a good quality product for the purpose.

Part numbers matched a Honda.

Rubb the mike and you can tell it is hooked up, makes a noise.

Will hook a meter to it and see what is what.

Sometimes, the headset is the problem, some will not work right. check that the pins are lined up and match. and as for as distance, 1 or 2 miles is good nowdays.

Al, there should be plenty of people to check if out while you're at Cheaha.  I'll probably be leaving Knox about noon so I won't get to ride down with yall.

? when you hold the transmit lever down, does it show a TX just above the channel # on the display?

Good point Razor...I have recently cleaned my switches because I wasn't transmitting well.  Once I did that, everything was back to normal.  (I forgot about it until you mentioned it.)

The SWR meter will tell you what your problem is.  I've had to trim my antenna to get my readings between 1.0 and 1.2 throughout the channel range of 1 through 40, which is nearly perfect.  I've helped a few other Valks trim their antennas and all needed help.  Just buying the CB and hooking it up won't give you the best range, they all need the antenna tweeking based on the four I've worked on.

I gave my SWR meter and the connectors to my club in Colorado.  You can probably search the archives to find all the adapter info you need to do this.  It cost about $40 for everything when I bought it somewhere around 2000.  You can get everything you need at Radio Shack.  Conversely, if there's a CB shop at a truck stop near you, they may be able to test your unit's output.

CB shop, if they are good, can also tweek it enough to get more range out of it. We had all our cb's tweek and got a few more miles out of them.

Yes Razor the TX shows in the window and Rx shows when recieving.

May not be anything wrong at this point may have not been close enough to have anyone recieve.

Will check you out at Cheaha and maybe the thing will work anyway,.
