Dead Lakes Cruiser

Wewa, Fla.

« on: April 28, 2010, 06:37:29 AM »

Hello everyone,
My name is Tony aka: Wewaman and I live in the Florida Panhandle.  My family and I went to Tennessee for spring break and while we were there we decided to Drive to Roanoak, Va. to visit my Paw-in-law who just had hip replacement surgery.  (This is the good part) While we were there my Pa-in-law asked me if I wanted to ride his bike for him because it needed to be run, it has only been started and not driven because of the cold winter and needed riding.  So I took it for a ride and filled it up with preimum then came back.  He then told me that I hadn't answered his question about wanting to ride his bike for him.  I told him that I took it for about a 25 mile ride and also filled the tank.  He then said Im not going to ask you again so I said Yes Sir I want to take your bike for a ride.  He then asked me to take his bike back home with me and for me to ride it as much as I wanted.  He said that he wouldn't be able to ride for at least 8 months and he didn't want the bike just sitting that it needs to be rode.  So he outfitted me with everything that I needed to ride it back home 800 miles away.  I rode it back to Tennessee  about 4 1/2 hours and we stayed there 3 more days then on Saturday I loaded up and rode it all the way to Florida about 10 hours.  After about 9 hours I had to stand up and re adjust my butt and I thought Wow 9 hours and this is the first time I've noticed I was riding.   MAN WHAT A RIDE SOOOOOOOOOOOO SMOOTH. After getting it home I washed it and called my Paw-in-law and let him know that I had made it home with no problems he said that he appreciated the call and for me to call him often.  On Monday I rode to work about a 30 mile one way trip and after I parked it and came inside,  A lineman for our company came in and asked me if I knew who's Honda was outside and I told him it belonged to my Pa-in-law and that I was going to have it for a while he then told me that he almost bought one when he was a contractor in California but when he moved to Florida he forgot about it.  A littte while later another guy comes in and asks who drove the land yaught in to work, I told him the same story he then started to tell me all about the Honda Valkyrie.   So I decided to look them up on the computer and see what they were.   Oh boy was I enlightened.  I found out that they were made from 97 to 03 and that EVERY review was Excellant I then told the lady who works with us about the 97 % satisfaction rating of the bike so she looked up her 2007 Heritage Softtail and it was rated at 47 % she was not happy.  HAHA  So after much reading I found your website and joined.  So I am riding a 2003 Valk and loving every single mile.  There is alot of great information on your web site and I am still reading..  Thanks and keep up the good work.

Welcome, Tony!  I've had my Valk over 11 yrs and it still brings that possum-eating grin whenever I ride it.

Welcome aboard...  Youll love the Valk!  And yes they do get alot of attention , its not unusual to come out of a building and find folks standing around the Valk waiting to ask questions... Enjoy.

Welcome, Wewaman.

Take no offense, but YOU GOT LUCKY.  I suspect you know that already based upon reading your post.  Eight months?  Your paw-in-law fell for the old over-protective doc treatment.   My hip doc tried that shiite on me a couple years back too.   It took me less than 3 weeks to throw my leg across the seat and take my first after-surg ride.   If I'd of heeded his advice, I'd have missed the whole summer too, and that just wasn't going to happen.

Don't let your paw-in-law know that though.  He may want you to bring his Valk back early.   Grin

ok here goes:::: I live about 35 min. east of Panama city in Wewahitchka.
When he is ready for the bike back he will call and we will make arrangements to get it back to him.
He already told me that he wasn't selling it or giving it to me.. So yes I have been looking around for one.  I am only slightly familiar with the 2003 Valk and that is what I have been looking at. any input on other year models would be great,  Thanks.  My pa-in-law said that he wanted me to use the premium gas so I am.  It runs great so whats with the six degree trigger wheel?  No he doesn't have any more bikes but he is cruising around on a honda moped..  Ok I think I have answered all the questions..  TTFN ( ta ta for now )

Welcome to the addiction Wewaman.

I know where Wewa is.  I live in Fort Walton Beach now, but at one time, I used to live off of Star Ave a little north of Highway 22, the Wewa Highway on the east side of Callaway (Panama City).

You're about 2 1/2 hours away from me and ChrisJ.

You should ride over to PC beach and check out Thunder Beach this weekend.  Not sure yet, but I might be riding over there this Saturday.
