Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: May 02, 2010, 04:04:15 PM »

I've been to the Cheaha Rally many times over the years and this is the first time I've rode down and back without getting wet. Looking at The Weather Channel when we left out friday I figured this one had the potential to be the wettest ever. Tennessee is having record floods today and we never had a drop hit us the entire ride back today. I'd like to thank  Tim and staff for putting this ride together as its one I look forward to year after year and hope Tim makes the call to have it again in 2011. I did'nt take many photo on this ride however I do have a few to share.Friday started out a little rough when Don ( Popcorn ) showed up on his Buell and did'nt make it very far before it broke down  Sad

The guy standing to the right of Eric ( Little Buddy ) stopped and offered to go home and get his trailer and give Don and the Buell a ride home . He was a good dude and a rider as well.

Wonder who would have a huge catfish hangin' from the rails of his room at Cheaha ?

If you guessed Big Al you win  Smiley  We stopped and had lunch on the way down friday at " The Fishing Hole " somewhere in Alabama and Al saw this fish and ask the lady if he could have it.

Yes and somhow that Blue and White Bike got strangely enough into the picture.

That bike gets more air time than Budweiser Commercials.

Al and thanks for making my fish famous.

You may be a Red Neck if you have a stuffed cat fish hanging form your Balcony.

I took almost no pictures at Cheaha this year, I guess I was having too much fun...

Henry got a front flat on the way... still had the plastic Honda valve-stem, it was cracked
and leaking. He thought something "felt funny", we stopped and looked at what I might have
done wrong reassembling the back-end, all looked good. It was obvious what the problem was
by the time we got to Toccoa, Ga... three blocks from a Honda shop... I had some patchboy
stems, and they jumped right on it and fixed him up.

There were several people at Cheaha telling stories about someone they knew who put
diesel in their bike... This nice Interstate was at the Honda shop in Toccoa... someone had
put diesel in it...

I stopped at a different pump than usual down at the corner store a few weeks ago... I stood there
a while, wondering why the pump didn't reset... then the owner came out and yelled to me, "when
did you start running diesel in that thing?"... naturally he told everyone who he thought might know
me, so I was the butt of jokes in the neighborhood that weekend...

Hey Mike my Dad has put that stuff in his gasoline truck more than once and I consider him a very smart man.

I put Gasoline in a Bobcat once and it was in the Hydraulic Reservoir, a big HUH OH>

It happens man, with all the things going on in the world taday I am lucky if I don't drink Diesel

by mistake.

Back in High School, a bunch of us teen-agers were working at the Exxon car wash... a motorhome
pulled up to the pumps, the owner said fill it up, and went inside... the kid running the pumps
filled up the potable water tank with gas...

Yep, I was leading our group. Had just looked in the mirror and everyone looked fine. We by a gas station, around a curve looked back and only on person was following. Uh-oh. First thought was someone pulled out in front of the rest, but then several cars came over the hill. We turned around and found the other 18 bikes at the gas station. The third bike back had filled up right after the lunch stop and mistakingly but in diesel. 15 miles later it died on him and he was able to roll into the station.

He went inside, found a can to drain the mess into but we needed a hose. I asked the group and sure nuff, out comes a 6' rubber hose. Forgot the guys name, but said it was the 5th bike he's hauled it around with and never needed it till today. Someone drained the carbs after the tank was drained. A couple guys helped push the bike to the pump, filled her up, fired her over about three times and off we were again. No shop, no lost time, cause everyone was either helping or hanging out. The owner has a handle now, "Deasul."

Don't know if he visits the board and if he wants to identify himself I'll let him have the honor. He rides with a group from around Mobile, AL on every Friday. Great group of folks.

He had told the rest of the group to go ahead, that his buddies would stay with him till he got it running. Sorry, I'm of the school of no one left behind. That's just the way it is. Besides, now I know what to do if I'm ever in the perdicement.

Loved riding with you guys and gals. Had a blast.

I pumped some in my XS11 one morning, then had to buy several gallon jugs to dump it into before I could refill the bike and get back under way (with a second tank of actual gas).

Returning to VA from San Antonio, TX last month I would have filled my Interstate up with diesel if the pump had started. I was tired and not paying attention.  I'll try to do better.  BTW, that was in Hammond, LA.

Thanks to everyone that stayed with me, but to tell the truth the guy that took me back talked the whole time, I never got a word in, but as you said Joe, he was a good guy and wouldn't take any thing for hauling me back. It does look to be the fuel pump. Next time I'll take the Valk.!!!

Heather shot some video of the diesel Valk when he got it cranked back up again.  I'll post it when she gets back with the camera.  After everybody left on Sunday, we also rode the loop around the top of Cheaha and she shot some video.  I'll try to post that up, too, so that those who have not been can see what they missed.

And...I think...I can find a picture or two of Big Al gettin' LOW during the limbo contest.

Stormrider - once again, thanks!  You did a great job leading us through some beautiful backroads.

Tim (and staff) - AWESOME JOB!  This was my first rally, and was such a great experience.  If you do anything like this again next year - count us in!

Pics and video to come soon...(think I'm gonna try to combine the video with one of my favorite tunes from the weekend - "Hit Me with Your Best Shot").

It was great to meet all of you.  Thanks for welcoming us newbies into your "family".

It was great meeting ya'll as well. What great fun. And do post the videos. Glad to see you made it home safe. How many miles for the weekend and how long did it take to get home?

1070 total miles for the weekend.  This was a record for me - but I know that's all in a day's ride for some of you.  Wink

Once I hit I-20 in Anniston, I made it to Gainesville in just under 7 hours.  Saw a bunch of bikes heading north on I-75...I'm guessing they were coming back from Thunder Beach.

Not a drop of rain the entire weekend.  It looked threatening for a couple of miles - but held off.
