The boss says she's going to spring for a GPS.  What's a good one for the bike (movable to car)?

Tom, for my money, I have a Zumo 550. If I were going into the GPS market again, I'd get the same exact one. Many like the hard drive based units, but, I like the reliability of the solid state, no moving parts, water proof Zumo.  Grin It comes with a motorcycle mount, and a car mount. Both stay in their respective vehicles, and the gps comes out with a flip of a latch. Very easy!

I have a Lowrance iWay. It's a hard drive unit.
Weighs a ton and is almost three inches thick.
I got it on-line and totally missed the depth.

If I had it to do over, I would have went solid state.

Good luck.

Terry,  I do remember seeing your Zumo.. it was really cool.  BUT.. neither of you mentioned the TomTom Rider II.  This is the newest version of their biker's GPS.  They tout some great functions like included RAM mount for the bike, Cardo scala-rider wireless Bluetooth headset and easy 7-step destination setup.  I haven't read too much about Zumo except what E-bay lists.  Heard anything about TomTom Rider II?

Tom, Phyllis from Houston area, goes by Lyn Del...she has a Tom Tom and said she loves it. Maybe she will chime in and tell you why it is better than the Zumo

I'm looking into a waterproof PDA holder for my PPC-6800 (aka Spring Mogul).  With Google Maps, it is a viable alternative to a typical GPS unit.  You loose a bit of screen size compared to some of the newer GPS units and don't get turn by turn directions but you do get real-time traffic and always updated maps.  Even with the updated software on my Garmin (car only), it still freaks out in Houston on I-10, unsure of if I'm on the road, on a side road or going the wrong way depending on where I am as well as other roads in other cities.  I'm hoping that Google's next version of Maps will have turn by turn directions...which is the only thing it is missing right at the moment.

I think the Zumo 550 gets the nod.  I've read so much about the TomTom vs the Zumo that my eyes are bleeding... but it looks like the Zumo 550 has more of the features that I will use on the bike.  Thanks for all the help peoplel
