Pulling the trailer the Valk gets horrible gas mileage.......I had a display case to deliver.....perfect day.....bike has half a tank (left over from Cheaha and trailer pulling)........lets go!!!!!!!!  On the way home I hit reserve at 126miles instead of 150sumthin and I still have 10 miles to go for gas.  I have been telling people that the Pingel gives me 10 miles on reserve, just never REALLY TESTED it before today.  So, the big question...do I turn around and hit the station I passed 1 mile ago, or do I press the test button and go the full ten miles????

Of course, I pressed on to test the system.....8 miles, nine......startin to sweat a bit........ok at the light, wouldnt you know I made the red.....long light.........U-turn to the gas station and oh wow....sputter, complete the turn and sounds fine, but no sweat Im there......

Fill up and she takes 5.105 gallons, most I have ever put in!!!!!!!  I think 5.3 is a bone dry tank.  I wonder if you can possible burn every drop.......I think I was at the limit.......but it made it 10 miles!

Now I know

Jeff, you'll never know what bone dry is until you run it all the way to the bottom.  Hopefully, you'll do this on purpose with a gallon of fuel strapped to the pillion or in the side bag.

Measure the miles you get from the top of reserve to the bottom of the tank.  That volume is always the same.  The distance on that volume will vary by the influences of speed and wind.  I'd test it running a fairly fast clip and figure you can always get at least ninety percent of that distance.

My full distance on reserve is about 43 miles.  I consider 35 miles to be my critical point.

Amount that you can put into the tank depends a great deal on how the bike is leaned and how close to the top you're willing to fill.  I've put 5.6 gallons in mine on more than one occasion but I fill it, when I'm on the road, all the way to the top.

Know what you really have and it'll relieve a lot of unnecessary tension.   Wink

Thanks Willow.........I start looking for gas once I get over 100 miiles on a tank...seriously at 120 miles and never had a problem pulling into a station before the big 150........thats stretch the legs time.......the trailer changes that drastically (if you remember you had been pulling it!!!!)and made for some excitement today.............its all an adventure anyway
