My baby turned 60K last weekend while riding in a hailstorm. As always there has been a huge oil debate raging on the tech forum. Decided I would try one of the suggestions. Switched from Rotella 5W40 syn to Mobil 1 15W50 syn. Rode last night to the meeting that is next week (yes, I know what I just said). MPG up by 3 on this tank. Shifting much smoother. Virtually no tranny noise. I can even hear my Cobra shorties without baffels (like I couldn't hear them before). Apparently the old gal likes the higher viscosity oil.

Is this motorcycle specific oil y'all are using? Or just auto oil with no friction modifiers? Hay Jimmyt

I always look for the Mobil 1 that doesn't have the magic text at the bottom of that circle thingy on the back of all oil bottles... Sorry I don't remember the specifics, but supposedly if it doesn't say something on the bottom of the circle, it doesn't have friction modifiers in it...

Quick check, I've always heard that if it says energy conserving it has friction modifiers, don't belive 15w50 does. That being said, I know of several people with lots of miles on bikes running energy conserving oil. At last repot they are all waiting patiently for the flaming death.

Some ride their Valks darn hard, all the time. When they experience clutch problems of any sort, oops, it's the oil with those darn friction modifiers. I use Mobil 1 15w-50 because it quites the gear whine, that is about it. I think any oil will do if you don't try to kill it every time you ride it. Just enjoy it. Same oil in F-350 for last 10 years. My .02

i ve been using mobil one 20-50 and now15-50 for many years in all the cars and bikes .exept the hondamatic 750 . you can skip the 3000 mile changes and not feel guilty! . + no cluth slipage + best protection. i even put the used oil from the valk in my son s blaser 4.3 . the only down side is its an exxon mobil product !

I've ran the mobil one for as long as I've had valkyries. The auto (car) oil 15W50 has nothing in the bottom half of the circle on the back of the bottle. I change mine every 5k as it is easier to keep track of. I got turned to this oil by a buddy who did a lot of off road distance riding on a 650 KLR endro. He said a lot of KLR riders ran this to keep these big thumpers thumping while riding in the heat of summer in the woods and deserts.

Thought I would just put my .02 end this oil book. Have been a Mobil-1 fan for years, Motorcycles and vehicles. The only difference is I change every 10,000 miles. Have 185,000 on my chev p/u and 140,000 on Toyota Van. Been with this oil since around 1976/77 doing the same 10,000 oil change. I like it.

So far she hasn't had a problem with anything she has been fed as long as she gets to go. From CO's to CT's she loves the wind. We are pushing 183000 miles together....
