I was thinking of going from stock, to the glass pack modification, on my 03 standard. To those who have done this, I wondered if they were happy with the results, or if they wished they hadn't, as the bike was too loud or droned at highway speeds, also could you hear your tunes over the glass packs?

I know the question of sound is subjective, and I have listened to a few wave files from Mark T's site to try and get an idea of the sound.

Any other info regarding them is appreciated.
Thanks

Done  right like MarkT does you can have several levels of sound output. Full "bones" down the center of the glasspack is loudest or you can remove (or shorten) the bones for quieter or add the silencers for quietest.

To answer the question about 'drone', and 'music'...  The longer the glass pack, the quieter they are...  I went from 16" packs that hat started to rust after 6 or 7 years, and replaced them with 12" packs...  I can tell you, inside the 4" stacks, a 12" pack is quite a bit louder than the 16" pack...  Great for runnin' around town, or to Bike Night...  But, when it comes to 500 - 700 mile days, it gets to be a bit much.

I made scilencers for mine, that can be removed when not wanted, and installed when headed out on a long trip.  The scilencers consist of a 1/4" chicken wire tube (using a paper towell tube as a form) about 12" long.  That is wrapped in a 'batt' of material, used to insulate kilns and other high temp ovens.  Then, the whole assembly slides up in to the stack, all the way up to and over the end of the glass pack.  The whole thing is kept in the pipe with the exhaust tips that were being sold like crazy, about a year or so ago...  Sorry, but I don't have the USB cable for my camera (it's at work), but I can post a few pictures of the scilencer set up tomorrow...

The scilencers work great.  I can listen to tunes, or enjoy a long ride, with no drone, with or without a helmet.

Have 1 3/4" x 12" glass packs, scallops facing the engine and a 1 3/4" tail pipe finishing flush with the end of the stacks. No drone and not excessively loud. Not sure of the make of headers, picked them up on E bay.

As promised, here are the pictures of the silencers I made to tone down my Glass Packs, for long trips.

First, the 'tube', made of 1/4" chicken wire...

Next, the 'baffle' material.  I used the stuff that insulates Kilns, and other 'Hi-Temp' type ovens...

A view from the end that can be seen from the outside of the stack (note wire ends bent at 90* to hold the baffle material...

Here is how they fit in the stack...  Just sort of turn while inserting them...  (in the pic, they are not fully inserted)...

Can't remember who made these tips, but they were all the rage a year or two ago.  They hold the scilencers in the stacks...

They work for me, but I'm gonna make one more mod.  When removing them, one silencer came right out, while the other was stuck, and came out in bits n pieces...  I plan on making a thin stainless wrap around them, so the entire silencer is covered just enough to slip in the stack.  That way, the baffle material will not be in contact with the inside of the stack, and will be contained inside the stainless tube.

Hope this helps.
