 how can you tell if a ignition module is a interstate or a standard or tourer is their a number or what should i be looking at

The Interstate part number starts with MBY and it is printed on the module. The same holds with a lot of Interstate part, if in doubt check the numbers on HDL or any of the parts houses with online parts lists.

looking at one, the I/S is thicker and has a larger width wise recessed area.
