Got mine from a bearing store...........
Ball Bearings Inc. I think was the name of it. It is a local bearing place however you should have a local store in your town or close by at a bigger town.

I buy from Motion Industries but you can always order from HDL Parts or from the stealer.

NAPA has 6204 bearings, but did not show the other rear, 5204. I got 3 6204 and 1 5204 at Purvis a month ago. http://www.purvisindustries.com/locations.html

Local bearing houses have them by the gross. Should be about 10 or 12 bucks.

So do you bring the old bearing in for them to match it up or do you tell them the 6204,5204, etc... numbers? Or what numbers?

If you take the old ones in they will measure them and match that way along with physical characteristics.
If you tell them the part # they may want to know if both sides are sealed.

All they (should) need is 5204 & 6204, sealed on both sides.
If that's not enough for them to be sure, the 5204 has an ID of 20mm, an OD of 47mm, and a Depth of 20.6mm. The 6204 has an ID of 20mm, an OD of 47mm, and a Depth of 14mm.

Ok, I called the local Motion Industries and the guy I talked to knew what bearings I needed by giving him the 6204, 5204 #s. (I take it he musta been a Harley rider cause when I mentioned they went on a Honda he said they were probably crap from the factory!! I had limited time so I didn't want to argue...) He said something like $12-15 as compared to HLD.com which they are around $45-50. I'm going to replace my front bearings too. Does anyone know what these bearing numbers are? What about seals? Are there any to be replaced when replacing bearings and if so would a place like Motion Industries have these? (If I'd want to put up with the Harley guy)

From 98 on the front wheel bearings are the same as the left rear, 6204-2RS. The 97s used 6004-2RS.

$16.65 for the left wheel bearing from HDL, not the $45-50 quoted.

Your correct, it's the right bearing that's $45 at HDL.

Local bearing houses have them by the gross. Should be about 10 or 12 bucks.
That's what I paid for my SKFs Marty I checked out MotionIndustries.com and they have a bunch of 6204 2RS bearings. Almost all of them have additional alpha-numeric designations. Marty, what bearings are you using? I read where you mentioned SKF but there are 18 varieities of SKF 6204 2RS bearings listed. In my research I've heard that 6204VV are a high performance bearing, I think. These size and type bearungs are used in a wide variety of applications. So I want to avoid buying a bearing that is intended for an electric motor or food processing machine. There are 6 different 6204VV bearings listed with no indication of the reccommended application. Anyway, I'm confused. Any help would be appreciated. John

All the guy said that I talked to at Motion Industries was that some 6204 bearings had a "RS" at the end that stood for rubber seal. He never mentioned anything else except that a SKF brand was the best, at least in his opinion.
