I'm with you, Hoser.

In the car the other night, my 15 yo daughter asked "So you really don't like any of the new stuff coming out today?"  Just as I was about to inform her of the music our generation grew up with, a block of Santana came on the radio.  I turned it up and we jammed for about 15 minutes of some kickass music with incredible guitar and energy.  When it ended, I turned to her and said "I rest my case"!

Well, I was born 25 years ago! I'm not much of a fan of 80s music other than some of the metal bands. Most of my favorites are from the 60s and 70s-- Bob Dylan, Neil Young, etc.

I found a website that showed the number one songs on my birthday through the years. I was born in 1948. In looking at the number one songs since then, the last title I even recognized was around 1983. I had my wife (same age) look at hers, and she had the same results.

I just went to that (or a similar) site... I had to go back to 1974 (I Shot The Sheriff) to find a song
I actually remember listening to...

A lot of Bruce Springsteen. Saw him at the Richfield Colliseum and old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. They're both long gone now. Bruce and his crew always put on a helluva show, 3 1/2 hrs. with a 1/2 hr. break in the middle for them to rest up for the second half. Old Muny. stadium was wild, 83,000 people and most of them were drunker than hell   laugh. Tickets were $12.50 - $25 back then. This $100+ ticket stuff today is shiite for the birds, they can all K.M.A. The 2nd best I ever saw was Lynard Skynard in '89 or '90 at an outdoor venue about an hour outside of Nashville. Was down there visiting a high school buddy that just got out of the Marines, good times. First concert I ever went to where everybody entering got searched for weapons  ???. I wasn't drinking and they sounded perfect, just like the radio. Always kinda wondered if they were lip syncing but I doubt it.

A lot of the artists I listened to as a kid were dead or headed that way. My dad always limited the amount of time I could spend on the radio....didn't want that big old battery run down when the news came on. By the 80's, I was getting a good introduction to the current genre....my oldest was in college, two more in high school and the fourth in jr. high. Some I could handle, a lot was just noise....a bit like a "kitchen band."

I remember one day one of my girls was listening to some artist(?) wailing away and gushed to me about what a beautiful love song it was. I asked how could it be a love song when the singer sounded like their arm was being amputated without benefit of anesthesia? Then told her I've never yelled or screamed at your mother like that when telling her of my love. No wonder the divorce rate is going up and the couples just quite trying....their ears hurt. She just looked at me like I was from Planet X and walked away. I guess "dad" just didn't "get it."  Guess not.  Wink

G-Man... I agree with you.... my 17 YO son wears Led Zeppelin shirts and his favorite bands are Zep, Rush, REO, Styx, Journey, Aerosmith,  AC/DC and of course The Floyd.... and he's not the only kid in his class that likes them all...  I asked him why he doesn't like "newer stuff" and he said some of it's ok, but the  "OLD music" has more soul and kicks ass!   At something like a Battle of the Bands at his high school... I would say 75 % of the songs the kids played or tried to play were oldies!! I was amazed. When I was in school in the early 80's we would NOT have played music from 1955.

I guess quality rally CAN be timeless....   sometimes I'm afraid when it comes to music, all the good stuff has already been done.
